Hi all. I got done for speeding last month (shooting fish in a barrel scenario)

I showed the Gard my Australian licence. He said I will receive a fine in the post but no points as it's a non Irish licence.

Received the fine, paid it in due course. And today I received a letter from the RSA relating to that offence stating 2 points have been put on my licence??

I didn't think they could put points on non Irish licences? .. Would this just be a generic, automated letter do you think?

They'll be applied when you get an Irish license. Think you need to swop yours to Irish if you're here more than 12 months, or something like that.

a psuedo license has been created for you, and if you get an Irish license, the points become active.

I reckon this is the case. A record was created for you to put your details in the system.

Now an unsrupulous type could argue that if you were to ever to apply for an Irish licence, but if your details didn't quite match what was on the system, then they might not link the two...

Does the Ozzie licence have an expiry date?

    Yeah it expires in 2014
