spotted Garda speed Van - please add where you seen it

come november this is going to be another headache or money spinner so thought i might be an idea to get their preferred locations together in one thread

noticing a lot more garda speed camera vans the last week or two may be that they are trialing it

they have a new10d white one with garda markings on it and a picture of camera on the back of it unfortunately you only notice this when driving past it

if you spot a white van parked up ahead of you be wary

SPOTTED on tonlegee road its parked up on the path after the traffic lights at millbrook road

SPOTTED on ballymun road after traffic lights at DCU

SPOTTED on fairview strand just before the bridge last sunday morning



any other sightings?

On Walkinstown Avenue two days ago.

Spotted 4 of them today - 2 either side of the road between Moneygall and Roscrea; looked like the new ones on test and there was an unmarked squad car there too and a few lads standing around with clipboards.

Was in a long line of traffic doing about 100 so don't think any good pics for above the fire place got today. Other days along that road though I might be given it the beans as its a long wide section that can be used for passing trucks etc. Will be no longer used much once new section between Borris In Ossory and Nenagh opens in next month or two.

One of their favourite spots is under the luas bridge at cherrywood. Usually a cop on a bike, but have seen brand new van there a couple of days ago.

Saw that too. No doubt trying to catch people not slowing down fast enough from the 80 stretch to the 50 zone.

If you get gps co-ordinates (lat, long and direction) and submit them to www.pocketgps.com, you could earn yourself a lifetime subscription to their database which will work with pretty much any sat nav system. There's a fair number of mobile locations already on there going by the rate my Garmin bleeps at me.

Otherwise, skibum's use of google maps is helpful if you want to input your own

I like the word. I use nimrods myself. That said us nimrods have no issue with not speeding, some of us have an issue of the usual shooting fish in a barrel for revenue, not safety. When I see the cameras outside schools/hospitals/known black spots etc and I still take issue then yep you can call me a nimrod and any other choice words you can think of.

If I was being pedantic I'd tell you that you shouldn't be starting a sentence with the word "also" , but I'm not.

Ironically, Steve06 is actually correct as per the Chicago Manual of Style where 4 dots at the end of a sentence is the norm.

These 2 dont appear on the garda website but I see them at least once every 6 weeks. There is no reason why the cherrywood one should be 60kph. There are 2 lanes and no paths for pedestrians.

I agree with the loughlinstown one though. People come up to that roundabout way too fast.

Spotted a speed(GATSO) Van ...on pembroke road, Dublin 4 last night....a residential area just after baggot street, van pulled into the side of the road - looked parked.

Only reason I know it was operational was because I stopped to take pics and the "operator" moved from behind the camera.

Tinnock roundabout off the Gorey bypass last week. I hear they are there regularly.
