Banned from Dublin forum

I received a lengthy ban straight off the bat today from the Dublin forum, which I think is unfair, unwarranted and unjustified.
I myself reported the thread as I was repeatedly personally abused in it, and was taken aback to find myself banned, since I was polite to all in the thread, answered questions put to me and abused no one.
I was also unfairly accused of trolling by the mod, an accusation which is untrue and which I resent.
I'm a Dublin resident of over two decades standing, and the result of the ban is that I am now prevented from even reading the forum, never mind posting in it.
I PM'd the mod and he informed me that I should open a dispute thread here, which I'm doing now.

I'm the mod who banned you.

    Here's the thread in question.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056052949

A person asks if there is a certain fast food restaurant anywhere near "The Aviva" - pretty obvious to someonoe who has lived in Dublin for "over two decades" what they are referring to, I would have thought.

    You reply with this

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=68362175&postcount=2

They clarify for you, and then you reply with this

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=68362307&postcount=4

I simply don't believe that someone who has been living Dublin for two decades has never heard of a place called "The Aviva Stadium". You then proceed to post this

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=68362550&postcount=6

becoming even more obtuse, and making some off-topic point, totally unrelated to the thread, and the OP still has no answer.

If, in fact, you have never heard of The Aviva Stadium, then I agree with this post.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=68362355&postcount=5
    :)

Furthermore, after you've made your little point, you go on to pick out someone up on their spelling

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=68364267&postcount=12

Again, more off-topic crap, and I'm beginning to lose patience.

Now we get to the crux of the matter, after successfully derailing the thread, your true colours come to light. A quasi-socialist point

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=68364548&postcount=17

Go you, but that thread, nor the Dublin Forum, is the place for that.

You then decided that seeing as you successfully turned the thread one way, you's stick with whatever crusade you were on, and start some needling in another direction

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=68364651&postcount=22

A-ha, I was right about the socialism :)

The OP came back then, and again, I agree with him

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=68364663&postcount=23

You were being a tit. We actually call it "being a dick" around here, but the end product is the same.

Then even more off topic guff out of you, and I can see no choice. I don't want people like you posting in the Dublin City Forum, ruining the atmosphere of the place. It's a friendly forum, where people come daily to ask "Where can I get X" or "How do I get to Y" - and they get answers.

We don't want, or need, smart arses like yourself coming along and trying to score stupid political points in threads where a simple answer will do.

I will do everything to protect the Dublin City Forum from this type of muppetry becoming prevalent there.

    Your ban stands.

I thought the point of opening a dispute thread was that someone else would review that decision?
You already said that you stood over this unwarranted ban by PM.
I'd rather a third party take a look into this.

Thanks for the input Des. While I understand the essence of and reason for your post, I have temp unapproved it for the following reason.

The process here requires that the CMod handling the dispute be the one to invite comments. And we ask that all interested parties bar the OP refrain from commenting until they have been asked to do so by the CMod. This is to be fair to all parties.

@Cavehill Red. I have dropped a PM to the Cmods.

    Hi Cavehill Red,

I have looked at the thread in question and I would agree with the sentiment's expressed by Des at the end that you were trolling and on a few occasions on the one thread. While I admire your refusal to tow the corporate line by calling the ground its sponsors name is a thread on Boards.ie about a KFC restaurant the appropriate place to do this..?By doing so I think at very least you will have to agree that it was taken the thread off topic.

While the ban lent would be on the more sever side Des did explain his thinking on this.

Des feel free to jump in here with your side.

If Asiaprod can make my post visible again, that should do it, it was long and contained a few links, and I didn't keep a copy myself.

I certainly wasn't trolling. I was making a simple point in relation to the corporatisation of Irish culture while assisting the original poster in answering their question.
What's more, I was polite to all posters, including those (including the mod mentioned) who were personally abusive towards me, none of whom seem to have been reprimanded at all for that abuse.
You may also note that in that thread I answered the question asked (no KFC in the vicinity of Lansdowne Road) and was the first to do so, I think (I can't check since I have been forum banned.)
I believe that in the post hidden on this thread the mod has expressed objections to my politics (not that he knows them) and further personal abuse in my direction, and I believe that among other things this animosity on his behalf has inspired this unwarranted ban and its entirely disproportionate length.

We will have to dissagree on the trolling,to me its a clear case.

Yes you did answer the question but only after taken the thread off topic.

I cant speak for Des and his political preference's,but I will tell you I am a comrade of the left and I still think your posts on this thread were wrong and out of line.

There's not much I can say to that unless you want to tell me why you think I was trolling. I assure you I was not.

No, once it was clear that the OP meant Lansdowne Road, I answered his question. Aviva is a company with an office in D2. He could well have meant there. After that, people started abusing me and putting questions to me, which I tried to answer politely. In other words, it wasn't me who took the thread off-topic; I merely answered questions put to me and defended myself.

I'm not speaking for Des either. He speaks quite clearly for himself, both on that thread and in this one.
I find it fascinating that I'm the one being forum banned when there is a mod flinging personal insults around with gay abandon.

Or alternatively a good pizza place. Thanks
    Near the what, now?
    Sorry, near the Aviva stadium.
    Never heard of it.
Aviva is some foreign insurance firm with an office on Hatch Street. No stadium or KFC near there, as far as I know.

Try to explain each of these posts to me,its quite clear you were trolling.I honestly don't think there is a person in the country who does not know were/what the Aviva stadium is.

Now you may see this as banter but if you were a new poster to boards (and incidentally the OP has little over 100 posts) you could read this and think this is the way things are done on the Dublin City forum.Des has posted saying he is trying to make sure the forum does not go down the after hours road.

Its quite clear,a user was looking for information and you took the thread off topic and pushed a other agenda.

Des has also repeatedly personally abused me in that thread and this.
Is that also how things are done in the Dublin forum?
I don't recognise anything called the 'Aviva Stadium' in Dublin. I am aware of a GAA stadium near my home and an international soccer and rugby stadium near my former place of work.
The user was looking for information, and I gave it to him once I was clear he meant the latter stadium. Feel free to check back through my posting history. You'll see I'm generally very helpful and informative in a wide number of forums, and have been thanked by many people as a result.
I'm no troll, nor am I a muppet, a tit, a dick or any of the other helpful and informative phrases the mod referred to me by.

I don't recognise anything called the 'Aviva Stadium' in Dublin.
You claim to be a "helpful and informative" poster - your posts in that thread were neither helpful nor informative. Next time you don't feel you can post something that's either helpful or informative, kindly resist the urge to post.

The ban stands. That's an admin decision, and it is final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,109 ✭✭✭Cavehill Red

Then I'd like to appeal the length of the ban which is utterly disproportionate.
I'll be honest, given the abuse I've received from the mod in that forum, I'm unlikely to post there ever again.
But I'm a Dublin resident, and I would appreciate the ability to at least read it.

I haven't seen any hint of remorse, or even acceptance that there was a basis for the ban in the first place.

Generally I'll consider reducing a ban if someone can make a case for deserving the shorter ban, but not the longer one. You have argued that you shouldn't have been banned at all, because you didn't do anything wrong.

    Sorry, but I disagree.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,109 ✭✭✭Cavehill Red

If I'd thought there was a basis for the ban, we wouldn't be here discussing it.
I don't see how lying to you that I'm now convinced a ban is justified achieves anything.
I already made my case above. I assisted the OP once I knew where he was referring to by answering his question. People started questioning and abusing me and I answered them. Thus the thread went off-topic.
I'm certainly among those culpable of taking the thread off-topic in that sense, but I don't see anyone else, including the mod, copping a month long ban as a result.
And I'm still interested to hear an explanation for how mods abusing posters repeatedly with personal insults is 'how things are done' in the Dublin forum.

If I'd thought there was a basis for the ban, we wouldn't be here discussing it.
Then you can't with any validity argue for a shorter ban.

Again: the ban stands. If you want to continue reading the Dublin forum once it's up, think twice before you post something that's neither helpful nor informative.
