i was stopped the other night for speeding, garda told me i would receive fpn within 3 weeks, however now i come to think of it he never asked me to produce insurance at local garda station within 10 days, is this not the standard procedure with speeding/other driving offences?.... i'm afraid ill soon receive a summons for not producing insurance even though i wasn't asked....

best thing is to go to your local garda station and ask them about it.

thanks but from what i have heard this is an internal garda procedure having stopped a driver for a road traffic offence, and has nothing to do with rsa or penalty point system

Was there an insurance disc on your windscreen when you were stopped?

I'd say you'll be alright. I got caught speeding about a year and a half ago and didn't have to produce insurance or anything, just got the fixed penalty notice in the post and paid it off.

From stories i heard from friends/ work mates, asking to produce insurance details in a station, is usually a way just to annoy you ( unless theres been a crash)

If theres a fine/ points etc, i think you will just receive info in the post about it.

Not unless you fail the attitude test or give them the suspicion that you may not be above board (skanger in skanger car, skanger in nice car, young fella in powerful car etc)

    IANAG, BTW
