What ball do you find the most?

Over the summer i picked up a big amount of lost balls around the course.

Threw them into a box at home, decided last night to count them and have over 180

Interesting that 40 of them are Ultras! A big percentage. Next best Pinnacle.

Also a big number of Pro V1's (28) Some in great condition.

I play with Srixon Z-Star, but amazing to say i found Zero of these all summer.

So was wondering do any of ye seem to find a particular ball around ye're course, more so than other brands?

The Junkies around the public courses always seem to have a lot of pro v1s now that you mention it!!!
I have found a good few of them!!

Do you know that it has been scientifically proven that when you lose a pro v it mutates into two top flites!

dont know but i wouldn't hang onto an ultra or pinnacle if i found it,usually find a similar amount to what i lose which is usually a ball every second round or sometimes better

1 ProV1 in the hand is worth 2 pinnacles and 3 ultras in the bush.

    I find anyway...

If I want to finish the round with the same ball I started with it has to be a Pinnacle/Ultra/Donnay. A shiny new pro V1 off the first tee will usually find the local wildlife conservation area in less than three holes :D

Agreed, using a pinnacle off the first tee almost guarantees me to be down the middle of the fairway. Anything more on the expensive side gets lost.

Its stands to reason as recent scientific research indicates the more expensive the ball the more likely you are to shank it into the nearest bush and conversely the cheaper the ball, try as you might, is almost impossible to lose.

Is it not because the softer more expensive ball is more susceptible to spin? Even side spin. So if you slice a pro v and an ultra the same way you can expect the pro v1 to more more from right to left... I'd say that would sum up the scientific part.

Could be because Ultras are €20 for 30 balls, so are more likely to be used by hackers like myself who lose a few balls a round...

I generally find my own ball most often on a golf course

I never find any golf balls as I am always down the middle with tee shot and on the green with next shot.

People who find balls must be spraying everywhere

    Correct :)

I'd imagine that boxes of ultras are pushed on special offer by your club shop. Us less accurate golfers of the world tend to stock up on the cheap and plentiful options.

    Only if you're left-handed.

Never thought of it before... but it seems to be Ultras.... over the summer I always found more than I lost though so had to clean out my bag a couple of weekends ago..

    :)

without doubt its Pro V1's.... of varying ages ( and therfore quality obviously). Ultras & pinnacles too but Pro V1's by far the most common.

there are two specific out of bounds locations on our course that are sinks for balls. have too many now so i only pick up premium brands. havent bought a golf ball in what must be 8 months

I would have expected that Ultras would be more common that Pro V's.
Nothing to do with Ultra users being more wayward though.

If I stick a €1 Ultra into the rough I aren't too concerned about finding it and would take a drop. A €5 Pro V would mean I spent a bit more time searching.

Ment to say that the other way around. I've been finding an awful lot of callways recently. There a special on somewhere in south Dublin ha?

And just to address some of the comments... Even if you don't lose 1 it would be worth yur while to skirt the heavy grass. I always come across balls that way.

I found 6 ultras today

    cheat much?

How's that cheating? I'm yet to read a rule that says when I'm playing with my mates I have to put a certain amount of effort into finding a ball.

But lets put the question out there. Where in the rules does it say you have to look for a ball for a certain length of time before calling it lost? I'm aware of a maximum of 5 mins but not a minimum. The penalty is the drop. Although I'm guessing your thinking I'm taking a random drop as opposed to dropping /placing the ball from where the last shot was taken prior to the loss?

Your post most definitely implied that due to lack of effort to find the ball, you were just dropping one. Taking a drop is widely understood to mean dropping where you are and playing on, not going to the hassle of going back to the tee.

Apologies if i jumped to any wild conclusions, but i dont think your first post was to be read any way other than the way i picked it up, going on common golf colloquialisms.

There is no minimum time spent looking but a ball, but if you want to call every slightly wayward ball lost and go back to play 3 off the tee, cant see your golf progressing much.

Sometimes you just know it's not going to be found and you'll only find four different ultras instead :)

Ah talking anout pedantics. The thread is about finding balls so what he was saying was along the lines of you are gonna look for a ProV more than an ultra..
