The UCI has announced that David Garcia (Xacobeo-Galicia) returned a positive test for EPO at the Vuelta a España. The Spanish rider was already serving a provisional suspension after testing positive for blood volume expander Hydroxethal starch at the same event.

They still seem to think they can get anyway with EPO. Strange.

Must be the micro dosing or use of the many other forms that are harder to detect but they managed to get him this time.

Can't understand it really. Must just be the Spanish culture I guess...

Indeed... I was being Facetious when I said it, as on the balance of probability there's probably more that 2.

While there are a lot of people juicing up, there are certainly a percentage riding clean -they may not be the movers and shakers of the peloton, but they are in it (usually at the back I'd guess)

Not surprising at all- the fact that Hydroxyethyl starch (HES) was detected in his system makes it the next logical step that he would have also used erythropoeitin (EPO).

HES isnt going to do much for you on its own- its main application from a dopers point of view is going to be to mask the fact that his haematocrit has shot up from using EPO. With HES, he bolsters the non-cellular component of the blood and therefore effectively reduces the haematocrit, but you still have the extra red blood cells in your circulation :pac:

I imagine that with all that starch kicking around, pro cyclist blood makes truly excellent gravy.
