    Hi all, long time lurker...

    I've just started a postgrad course in NUIG. Started taking steps in the last year towards coming out. I've joined the lgbt society but they just seem to go out once a week. I don't particularly enjoy going out to clubs and the like so I was wondering if anyone knew of any other groups that meet up in the city? I know there's a youth group but I'm nearly 24. I don't really know many people in Galway as it is.

    Hi there well i was wondering the same thing ! Im cotemplating goin to NUIG next year and was wondering the smae things ! I know there are one or two gaybars in galway but if you dont like the club scene then i really dont know . I know there is a Outwest group that meet different places around the west Galway included other than that id say your best bet in to search online and see . Gaire and the likes :D

    At the moment there is no gay bar in Galway, since The Stage Door closed a short time ago. The is just Dignity nightclub, but the scene is constantly changing with new venues opening and closing. I've attended the NUIG lgbt on and off for the last few years. The do go out a lot, especially at the beginning of the year when they're trying to attract and maintain a solid membership. But they do non-clubby events as well once or twice a semester, usually educational, film screenings, etc. I'm not aware of any groups that may suit you, but you could always suggest a new kind of event to the lgbt soc, and I think shOUT is for 16-24 year olds, so you're still within their bracket, so probably worth checking out.

    Ok thanks guys. Might contact the outwest group to see if they have anything happening in Galway. And shout look good, maybe I'm not too old to be considered a "youth". :P
