Employing a person - tax implications

I run a small business & am thinking of taking someone on, on a part time basis. I've interviewed a guy who seems very suitable, but haven't much of a clue about the tax implications.

Basically, I'd like to offer him the best terms & payment that I can and was wondering if it would be more financially beneficial to him to pay him through the normal PAYE system, or for him to work for me on a self-employed basis & for me to pay him per invoice for hours done per month.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

    Hi

The difference between being self employed and an employee is a notorious gray area and depends on the circumstances of the contract. If the revenue deem that the person is in reality actually an employee, then you will be liable to the emergency tax and the employers PRSI. You should get proper advise on this.

    Kind Regards
