Landcruiser - Bad Radio Reception

Have a 2006 Landcruiser commercial. Great machine for my job.
Worst feature is real bad radio reception. Constantly losing reception in any town or village or pretty much any area with high buildings.

Don't know much about these things I'm afraid, so I have to ask, is it possible to improve the situation, by installing a better ariel, or is it likely that I have a piss poor radio, which needs to be chucked out and replaced.

    Thanks

IS it a UK import? If it hasn't a roof aerial then fit one.

Not a UK import. It has a roof aerial .......... but you wouldn't think so when listening to the radio. Any channel and all channels:mad:

My Dad had the same issue with his when bought brand new. Its something to do with the aerial strips in the back window. They admitted the fault and installed a roof aerial.

All the Irish ones have a roof aeriel as Toyota Ireland bin the rear glass and install panels in their place.

UNless your dads was a passenger or uk model conversion of course.

Torabora: it's probable that your radio is defective, try plugging in another aerial or swapping the radio

Could be as simple as a loose antenna connection at the back of the radio.

Pull the radio out and have a look should be easy to spot. The cable to the ariel could be damaged. Should be cheap enough to get one from the likes of halfords.

Even a new radio is a cheap enough option.

Well worth it for passing those boring miles or jams.

Could be RDS or other option turned on the radio and makes it contantly look for better signal which works in the UK and on the continent but not in Ireland where it instead can't get a proper reception, this happened to a mates car, simply turned off the option on the radio and was grand.
