I was wondering is there any news on this, I thought for some reason Oct 5th was to be the roll out date. I saw about 8 gardai hidden at a speed trap near swords( behind a Transit used for advertising ), it looked like they were trainning.

I was lucky, I have been trying to observe speed limits lately, as I was expecting a glut of mobile speed cameras, and the guy in front of me got pulled over, he had just overtaken me, while I was crawling along at the absurd legal limit.
Any news on this anyone ?

I have kept trawling the net on this, it seems deployment has been delayed untill November. Perhaps the coffee and doughnut machines were 24 Volt and the Transits are 12 Volt.:D

My public sector salary and future pension needs to be paid! Only joking!:D I heard that they are on there way soon, and there are test zones in operation already, especially in urban areas around Dublin and Cork! So watch your speed!

I don't think speed cameras are necessary in Ireland. People are more responsible drivers here then for example in central europe (its real savage there-soon it will be like in usa, helicopters everywhere etc. There is actually a tv show in Czech about drivers who try to escape from the cops etc. - very sad)...

i think the biggest problem in this country are drivers who cant drive :D. L drivers, old people or just moms in minivans. Using a roundabout is sometimes a real adrenaline sport.."is she going from inner lane straight like me, or what?" etc. i dont know if i want to laugh or cry when writing this, but anyway speed cameras arent the most important thing here id say. in Cork on south ring you can go 100 and that is really enough. some people go 120 (like me) sometimes but this is really not a problem. I think local authorities are just looking for some new source of income, thats all. it has nothing to do with safety.
