It basically seems to be what every upper class English person thinks Ireland is actually like but hey at least it's more charming than the reality.:D

Has anyone seen this or read the book?

I don't think it will be worth spending money on but I'll probably see it just for the "what they think were like" factor.

    It doesnt hit my Hotpoint.

I actually read the reviews of the book a few years ago - mixed.

The trailer doesnt exactly inspire confidence - deep freezer section, I'm afraid

    Read the book.

It wasn't very good. I bought it in an Oxfam shop to read on the Dublin Tralee train. It lasted the four hours and no longer as far as I remember.

A bit trashily written, but the overall story was reasonably entertaining. The guy got up to some minor adventures, but nothing spectacular. As far as I remember, he only had sex once, and with a New Zealand girl or something. So meh.

The book was an amusing read.

The book was half decent. I think I bought it from and gave it back to a charity shop.

it's an alright read but can't say much more than that, McCarthys bar would be better ther'd be more lol bits and craic with it set mainly in bars

Read some of the book, never actually finished it (that I remember). Also remember when he was doing it, Gerry Ryan followed his adventures for a while, I'd assume that's who the Ed Byrne character is supposed to be.

Tennis with the Moldovans was a better book ... but it's just your typical Dave Gorman / Danny Wallace type guff.

That looks fcuking disgusting. And the book looks fcuking disgusting as well. I always see it bringing up the rear of bookshelves in the houses of semi-literate people or in the hands of non-Irish people who don't know any better and desperately want to believe the tweeness that it conjures up.

yeah the book was ok but McCarthys Bar was a brilliant book .I dont think either would make much of a film .

I enjoyed the book. I've always liked Tony Hawks and fair f'cks to him for getting the film together himself. I'll definitely be giving it a look.

Watched film about a year ago and it is not good. Poor acting throughout and not filmed in Ireland either.
Book is supposed to be amusing enough but I haven't read it.

Most of it was filmed in England!

I saw the movie about a year ago. Two scenes are hilarious. When main character walks into a pub and the very next one when he's trying to catch a ride. The rest of the movie is very, very average.

Liked the book, the film was utter shíte from the awful script to the crappy acting to the preposterous "love story".

Watched this tonight. Very poor film and a waste of 90mins. 4/10 for me

Interesting that they chose such an attractive actress to play Brenda Donohue.
