Valid Parking Ticket?

    Hi All,

Wondering if someone could confirm a small matter for me. I parked my car alongside a footpath with no yellow lines along it, however it was in a cul de sac and I was at the end of the footpath. The path that ran across the front of my car however had double yellow lines. As I was not parked alongside these I presumed I was ok. My front bumper was not over hanging the double yellows but was admittedly not far off them, when I returned to my car I had a ticket for 40 quid for parking on double yellows - Can this be right?

Interested to see the general opinion - see if its worthwhile appealing this.

    Cheers everyone!

the front or rear of your car was facing the double yellow lines but you were not parked alongside tham as usually would be the case? if this was the case then the fine\ticket is correct as you were parked on the double yellow lines just perpendicular to them

My understanding is that there are very exact rules within the parking laws that govern how the car is parked in relation to the yelloy lines. Request a copy of these rules from city hall and see if you should appeal the fine.

It sounds to me like you should have been ok, but you need to look up the bye-law. There may be room for interpretation. Details of the bye-law will be on the ticket. You could also ask the neighbours.

Thanks to all for the advice, I've just sent an email off to the city council requesting a copy of the rules and stating my case, I'll let you know how I get on.

    Cheers again!
