Would A Fox Kill A Piglet

Lads, my mate had 4 out of his 5 new laying hen destroyed lastnight by Charlie
My mate was also talking about getting a piglet to rear for slaughter but asked me whether a fox would kill a piglet if given the chance ?

Needless to say, we'll be down his place over the weekend in an effort in blowing Charlie away but until we get him is there any point in getting replacement hens or will Charlie keep coming back for more, now that he knows that theres a chance of a free chicken dinner ?

Would a fox caller be worth using in my mates garden to attract charlie in over the weekend ?

Any info or suggestions regarding the above questions would be appreciated ?

    Thanks Lads !:D

No problem to Charlie. They are capable of taking down anything in size up to a Roe deer[obviously in a weakend state].

Worth remembering that a pig will eat small chicks, and anything else to stupid to get out of the way.

seen a home made dvd of foxes hunting in packs takeing piglets in england, last year seen four foxes sourrounding sheep with lambs in the center lying in the middle of the field around in a circle, would think trying to pick up a weak lamb, but shot 2 of them.

I'd have a sort of semi-grudging respect for a fox that takes piglets; of all the prey items available to foxes, they're the only one I can think of where Charlie risks being killed and eaten himself during the enterprise.

Not just small chicks, whole chickens will be a tasty snack for a hungry pig.

Banbh is term used by ordinary Irish folk for "piglet". I've only ever heard gentry use the word "piglet";) A fox would take a banbh!

If you think thats the case Fergal you really need to get outside of Luimneach a bit more often as theres plenty of "ordinary" irish folk that use the word "piglet" around the country.
Banbh would be mainly but not always used in rural areas.:D

Well Vic, My grandad always keep a sow and a few Bábamh's, from the 40's to the early 80's.
We are Rural though, grass grows in the middle of my road:D

A fox would take young, however Sows around bánamhs are a formidable animal

Yeah, have heard that alright, my mate would be getting one thats not suckling the mother anymore, take it on its own and rear it.
Me thinks that between my mate and his .22LR and my Remy .223 , a very bright light and a caller we'll have a good chance at taking Charlie out over the week end....all that and a bit of luck mixed in aswell !!!:D:D:D

My pot bellied pig is due at the end of the month I hope no foxes try for the piglets, they would be more like to go for my chickens and ducks or turkey first. Shes a small pig but shes got sharp teeth!!!:D
