I'm almost sure your visa is multiple entry. I was there in April, but we went from Kenya to Tanzania and back to Kenya on the one visa and was fine, and I'm almost sure it's the same the other way around.
Visa price is ridiculous. We had to pay double what everyone else on our tour had to pay just cos we were Irish....I thought it was $200, but maybe I'm wrong. We just got the visa at the land border though.

Lucky you!! You'll have a fab time!!!

5 years ago Irish citizens didnt have to pay for visas for entering Tanzania. Really pissed off the auzzies in the Q for the visas :)
When did this charge come in.

thanks guys, no-one seems to be 100% sure!! some dose alright having to shell out that amount, we've to pre-appy for a visa for rwanda too apparently unlike most other countries

it's $100 for single entry. AFAIK you cannot get multiple entry at the border. BUT if you only go into another east african community country then back to TZ then you can go in on one visa. not sure though if rwanda is in the east african community. Kenya and uganda definitely are.

the charge came in about 4 years ago, after ireland cut some of their aid to tanzania. then it was revoked again for a while but has been in place again for at least 2.5 years...most other nationalities it's still $50

Hope someone can help on this, planning to go to Tanzania later this year on holiday. Just wondering do I need to apply for a visa beforehand or are visas available when arriving at Dar Es Salaam airport?

unless things have changed since we went, you can get them at the airport. make sure you have your yellow fever cert too!!

Thanks for that, must check out getting whatever needles I need! Have a TMB booklet from SE Asia but that was 4 years ago so guess I'll need a top up including yellow fever.

Just out of curiousity, have you stayed in Dar Es Salaam? I plan on staying there for a couple of nights(with the missus on our honeymoon before doing a short safari and then a couple of weeks in Zanzibar). More wondering about safety during the day, we'll be keeping to the main streets/areas and avoiding lanes/dark alleyways :) wont be going out at night there as have heard it can be dodgy..

the yellow fever jab lasts 10 years and it comes with a yellow booklet which you need to show when you land. they will charge you for the shot if you don't have it wtih you.

we didn't stay in dar es salaam, just arusha for the safari and then onto zanzibar. zanzibar was lovely but there was an air about stone town, some places at night you just didn't walk. get a taxi to and from where you need to go and you should be fine

Thanks for the feedback. Dont have yellow fever shots so will have to sort that out. I guess I'll have to play it by ear in DES/Stone town but deffo wont be wandering around by night!

It is also a little cheaper to get the Tanzania visa beforehand from the High Commission in London for £46stg as opposed to the $100 it costs on arrival.

Stone Town seemed fine but exercise caution at night, same as anywhere, it is quite a labyrinth of little streets so easy enough to get lost day or night and it is quite small but get a taxi if you don't feel comfortable, being near the Equator the sun sets early enough throughout the year so night starts at 6-7. Watching the sunset with a few drinks is pretty popular so you may find yourself out after dark anyway.
