Everything I'm going to say here is based on common knowledge and hearsay, rather than my own experiments and measurements, so take it as such. But it's what everybody'll tell you anyway.

The first and most important thing to do is to get a good hop-up rubber. The Guarder clear 50% hardness ones are widely considered to be excellent for use below the Joule. You can get them from eHobbyAsia or lots of Irish retailers.

A longer barrel will probably help a bit, but more important is a tighter bore - 6.03mm should do, but you'll need to make sure you keep it clean and only use good BBs in it.

If you're extending the length of the barrel you might need to change the cylinder - if it's only putting out the right amount of air for the length of barrel in it, by the time a BB is getting near the end of a longer barrel it might have run out of puff and not be getting accelerated anymore (or so somebody once told me). It's to do with where the port on the cylinder is, and you can look up different ones to find what barrel lengths they're intended for.

That should do you I'd say.

Thanks that really looked like you put a lot of effort in so thanks. And I was looking at a guarder hop-up but how do you install it, does it come with instructions or anything? And thanks again

if your not sure how to do it, then leave it with a good gun tech. its a simple enough job to replace the barrel and hop up at the same time so shouldnt take them long

not sure about the scar but to get to the hopup on the m4 push trough the pin just in front of the magwell then pull apart the upper receiver and the lower receiver careful not to lose the spring from the charging Handel once there apart you can slide the barrel and hopup out of the inner barrel

not sure if that makes any sence lol

ok heres a vid of how to take the m4 apart you only need to take out the front pin to get to the hopup/barrel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9dXp9eMr70

Thanks that will help a lot. What exactly do i do when i have the hop-up out. Thanks man

roll the hopup wheel back completely like you would when its being chronoed

then remove the small green c clip that's near the front of the hop up unit, when you have done that you can now slide the hop up unit off the barrel revealing an ugly green G&G hopup ruber replace it with sexy guarder hop up and reassemble

Decent vid here on how to do a JLS SCAR, I don't imagine it's much different from the Star version, nor most M4s. It assumes you've managed to get the barrel out first.

    http://www.mechbox.com/scar/jls-scar-barrel-swap.html

This makes it look pretty easy, but if the hop-up bucking (the rubber sock thing) isn't lubricated on the outside it can try to come off with the hop-up unit and get wrecked up a bit, and it can be hell trying to get the hop-up unit to slide neatly back on over it.

    Thanks!

The star scar uses a unique fast change barrel, you can remove the outerbarril inner barrel and the bucking without any tools , just twist the gas regulater and pull barrel out, it is not the same as normal m4

Just a quick question Puding you seem to know a bit about the star scar so, are they any good?

a friend of mine has a scar,
we brought it in for an up-grade the other day an results were shockin..

putting in a 6.03 barrel extention brought down the fps by 10.
when me brought the gun in it was shooting 300,
then with the new bareel it was 290,
then he put in the original barrel with a garder hop up
and is now getting 315 fps..

not the best gun for sniping IMO..

    great gun for CQB though...

hope this helps in some way.

A good hop-up rubber will give you range, and barrel accuracy, even m4 length with a quality barrel and hop rubber will perform well, after that wind and so on wrecks accuracy anyway.

I used to recommend the madbull blue hops for range as they added hop even with the hop turned down and gave crazy range close to the 1 joule limit, but I find they wear out very quick and you end up loading on the hop to get any range, so go with the guarder clear as others have recommended.
