Tear in cv boot, NCT fail ?

I've got a tear in one of the cv boots ...spare ordered, will be fixed soon.

However, I could possibly book a NCT test for before the work can get done, that date would really suit me. No point in booking it though if all I'm going to do is fail anyway.

Anyone know if a torn cv boot is a fail or not ...for sure, like?

Yep, 100% fail if they spot it.

I'll get it fixed first then

+1 on the fail. Get a stretchy boot if you can, and find a mechanic with the stretchyboot tool to fit it. Takes almost no time to fit compared to the traditional boot.

Or the crappy glue on ones. They are crap though.

Naah ...no stretchy boots here, ordered the real deal already

Speaking about one size fits all kind of easy solutions ...came across a glue-able, split universal cv boot (which I also chose not to buy :D)

so no more removal of the drive shaft, just tear off the old boot and glue the new one on.

Google Quinton Hazell QJB6000D for further info

EDIT ...bah beaten to it :D

:pac: they are sh1t really as it's fairly difficult not to contaminate the boot with grease unless you are fairly meticulous. They are handy enough as a quick fix though, if for example you were selling the car on after NCT time and weren't too bothered about it splitting in 40 miles time. They're around for donkeys years too.

Yeah ...I've collected enough experience with botched glue applications around the house (from wood glue to super glue ...does ever finish up clean and proper?) to have learned not to attempt glueing such a complicated shape and under a greasy car, to top it all off :D

I failed an N.C.T four years ago for this very reason. I got the glue-able one at the time on my mechanics reccomendation (he was doing the job) and its been fine since, it most save two hours work at least.
I may be the expection though ;)

Get it done before the test, as a torn CV boot is a paid Re-test. Yep 28 € for a quick look at a cv boot........

Thos Glueable ones are crap or maybe I'm crap at fitting them . I did two of them on the same car andf both lasted less than a week and then broke at the seam.
