HOUSE-Getting sick of it!

Just watched the new season six premier episode " What now" . Wasn't a bad episode but getting a bit tired of it all. Fed up with House and his messed up head and the ludicrous story-lines-the neuro surgeon walking around in his underwear?!
I think most TV series have a life span of about 5 years before they just becoming boring and the storylines become ludicrous or you no longer want to suspend disbelief. Are we really going to believe that Cuddy-a beautiful bright woman is going to fall for a psych like House?

Keep watching, that episode isn't great but it's back on form for episodes 2 and 3.

And yeah, I do think their relationship is plausible, after six seasons of build-up I don't see how you couldn't!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,491 ✭✭✭looking_around

Actually..I've really enjoyed the episodes so far.
And as Donnie said... yeah I don't see why it isn't plausible. They're great together! And I'm still getting laughs out of it.

Perhaps, you are right but just watched 15 minutes of episode 2 and waiting for it to pick up though the crotch grabbing in Wilson's office was good.:p

So you basically either didn't watch the first six seasons or you just really weren't paying attention??

OP you're not alone! I've stopped watching too. I'm just not as fascinated by House's inner turmoil as the programme makers are. It must be hard though to come up with fresh ideas for a long-running show with a rigid format that's focussed on one character.

I agree that the new seasons episode havent been the same. I used to enjoy watchin the two of them bickering all the time, but im glad they finally got together. this season is great apart from that

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 242 ✭✭FlashGordon1969

Watched the full second Episode-it got better as it went along particularly the argument between Cuddy and House. However, the show is too formulaic. I knew when the brother mentioned his Sister never had a cold that this would be the moment of inspiration.
Why cant the other Doctors find the answer? I will prob stick to the end but more out of habit than anything else. That being said, this is my last series with House.

Have to say I'm disappointed this season with it, I watched 3 episodes last weekend and I was bored to tears by the end of it. The patient story lines just seem pointless and the whole Cuddy and House affair seems to be devoid of any humour. There's plenty of story lines they could be working on but as someone else said it's just too formula driven that has worked for years, but I can't see the show get another season. I think it has finally jumped the shark

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,387 ✭✭✭EKRIUQ

And seeing that nobody has started a thread for the last 3 episodes shows interest is waning.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 242 ✭✭FlashGordon1969

Well I would still agree with you.Conflict drives drama and the conflict is being driven out of it. Would be good if one of the other doctors stepped up a bit and really took on House. Or if they spun out a case over two episodes.
Most shows have used the good ideas in the first five years.
Probably watch it to the end but this is my last season.

Its all been rather meh since the new series started. I want to know what happened to 13. They can't just send her off into oblivion and not tell us what happened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,564 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

Can't comment on whats right or wrong with season 7 since it's the first season I haven't been watching at all. Since season 5 I have been less enthused about the show. I always thought seasons 4 & 5 were generally mediocre but were made great by the final few epsiodes in each. Season Six suffered a lack of direction and had a poor season-long arc. I don't think the complexitities of a house-cuddy relationship is enough to make me interested in this new season. As was said before there also has to be some greater conflict to get people interested.

She got sucked into a computer programme and forced to wear a skintight black cat-suit. I approve of this most unexpected plot twist, I have to say.

Angry, angst ridden House in pain and popping vicodin was much more fun and far more interesting. I miss him. And his pain seems almost non-existent since he got with Cuddy. Guess it was psychosomatic and nothing to do with the infarction and removing a chunk of muscle/botched operation after-all.

I still think House is awesome. I'm watching series 7 on Sky1 HD and I think its got better even.

Im getting pretty bored with it too. This season is yawn some to be honest. I wasnt even disappointed it wasnt on Sky last night. Says it all really.

series 7 is by far not great compared to the previous 6 before hand. but i was more than a little peeved lastnight when it was just a repeat, ended up leaving parents in north late so floored it down the road to get home in time

This forum has never been all that busy so I don't think that says much about the level of interest staying or dropping off.

I have seasons 1-4 on DVD, but I don't know if I would bother getting the more recent ones. They're not bad per se, but s6 didn't interest me all that much. The thing about House at the moment is that we sit through some average-good episodes, but not many come within touching distance of being great. And well, then they go and pull it out of the bag, with the finales.

its a quiet forum for one of the worlds' most popular shows alright.

The fact that a lot of the forum history has disappeared doesn't help (or has that just happened to me??)

Agree series 7 so far hasn't had the lols though. Hoping the new fellow will be a good foil for House. His meddling in his fellows affairs and his devastating bedside manner are what made the show great, endless morose musing over his Huddy relationship just ain't entertaining.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58 ✭✭DonOcelot

Sadly i too am sick of it. I thought they were pushing it going into 6 seasons but not they really need to stop while they are barely ahead.
This season has nothing going for it, not funny, no conflicts, same ol same ol process for each show, which i didnt mind before as it was a basis for a more important plot, but there is nothing happening this season.
Hopefully House gets cancer in his arse or something just to add some spice to a boring season.

House season 7 started off poorly but the story line has got a lot better!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 663 ✭✭✭SimpleLogic

damn it 2 month break :(

On the upside hopefully it gives the writers a bit of time to get their **** toghether and decide what they actually want to do with this series.

I've got the first four series on dvd and I love watching the old ones, you really can't beat them. I have to say I agree the new ones aren't as good, i've sort of lost interest. They seem to repeat the same diagnosis and it's just not as good as it was.
Cameron, Chase, Foreman and House are my favourite team, but where is 13 it's very confusing?

Have it on good authority that I am a beautiful intelligent woman and I have definitely fallen for House. :p

I've only just caught up on the last few episodes and that tells me that my interest is waning - it used to be must see TV the night after it aired stateside. I really miss 13 and not because I want her to have a lesbian fling - I think she had a good dynamic with the three boys and Chase and Foreman are lost without her. The storyline with Taub's wife ended last year and they should have let it go but no, it's back.

The thing that might save this series is the upcoming appearance of Granny Cuddy and if you know who's playing her, you'll look forward to her interactions with House. I also like Amber Tamblyn's character - maybe they need another round of Intern Idol to recruit some newbies to freshen it up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,305 ✭✭✭Chuchoter

Yeah I really don't like Taub. I wish we could have the new girl, 13, Chase and Foreman. I also hate House and Cuddy together.

Considering they've only aired the first 8 episodes of Season 7, that's quite an achievement. Hope you virus check those files.

My original view of this series 7 has not improved. Its just become so formulaic. Just watched RECESSION PROOF and it was the same ol same old stuff. multiple symptoms. Figuring out patient is lying. The new chick has not invigorated the show at all. The ending was also predictable in that here again its house being self indulgent " Im a brilliant doctor because Im so screwed up/unhappy " yawn.

I think it was last season they gave a full episode to Wilson. They need to branch out and experiment a bit more though I think viewer figures are still holding up in the USA so expect more of the same.

In my response to your original post in this thread I stated:

In your last post you've criticised the show by saying:
Its just become so formulaic. Just watched RECESSION PROOF and it was the same ol same old stuff. multiple symptoms. Figuring out patient is lying.

It has ALWAYS been formulaic since day one!!! Every episode starts the same, has all the same twists and turns in it, patient almost dies a few times before getting a diagnosis in the end. Throw in some House/Wilson, House/Cuddy interactions and the odd glimpse into the lives of the likes of Foreman and Taub and so on and hey presto; you have the formula for an episode of House.

This is the same formula which made it the most watched tv show in the world, it works so why change it?

I love the show myself, but yes, it has passed its peak alright. I hope it gets one more season but I also hope it (s8) will be its last season as the creative well is starting to run dry.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 18,663 CMod ✭✭✭✭The Black Oil

I don't think the show being formulaic is a problem, but what is essential is how they execute that formula. They're never going to get it right all of the time, I don't expect them to and they have tried to change things, at times.

As for the creative well running dry, that's very much the case now. It seems like the writers are sucking the lives and growth out of characters.

One theory I've heard on the 'net is that
House is in a coma after being hit by a car or something when he was on his way to Cuddy's drunk one night. That ultimately, the things have been happening have a purpose in terms of the arc of this season.

Re the ep 'Out of the Chute', annoyance was my main reaction to this episode. It wasn't even that it was a bad episode as such, because in some respects it was OK and entertaining, always glad to see Wilson and I liked the hallway scene with Cuddy, but we have seen
House in this mode before. I could care less about him being shacked up with prostitutes. I know he's an addict an all, we also know that the nature of the show is that it can be rather OTT. I'm not saying that it's complete repetition, it's just that they've done more than scratch the surface of that and yes, of course, unhappy House is probably more interesting than happy House. The acting is good, more than good, of course. But that simply is not enough, the writing has to service it. Some of it just isn't cutting it. Nobody wants to return to a carbon copy of House from the early days, but something, I can't put my finger on it, isn't working. OK, so I'll admit I was worried when he was getting ready to jump, but frankly I was ready to curse the screen if it was a dream. Thankfully it wasn't. I've never really sat on one side of the fence with the Cuddy/Huddy situation and realistically it probably needed about this much time to start, come to life and end. I don't really have an issue with that.

As for this week's episode, I'm glad we have a break now. House appears to be
going way past anything he's done in the past to get a rise out of Cuddy. And she's not giving in to it and fighting back. Wilson was right. And what's the point of trying to get a reaction when the other party's not biting? That said, I'm really enjoying Wilson and Cuddy together. If the show is going to make House remain this heartless bastard, forgetting who he is and that that person actually does have a heart, then Cuddy really does deserve better (although her character's being slaughtered too). Wilson is really the only rational being these days. And it nearly feels like a parody of itself at this stage, the monster truck - tedious.

So the show is getting a reaction out of me which means it is doing something, but for the sake of creativity and quality it really is a type of show that should not hang around for too long.

season 7, what shows survive that long without going silly, using stunts and being self indulgent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 233 ✭✭Flashgordon197

I suppose it has always been formulaic but perhaps at this stage I expected some innovation-some change though from what I know viewer figures are holding up so they are prepared to trudge along.

I didn't really care about Cuddihy breaking up with House in the last episode. Perhaps its just me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,564 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

I have been pretty uninterested in the whole huddy relationship too. I don’t think it’s destroyed the show, it’s just the inevitability of them ending up together didn’t make it that surprising when it happened. I think the failing in the show has been the lack of good writing for Houses team- they take up a lot of the screen time and are just boring. They added new characters and just made them defined by one particular character trait- the older characters just looked jaded, particularly Chase. E.R. managed to go on beyond 7 seasons and still had compelling characters in its final season.

I always assumed she as as she's credited in the open sequence on every episode she hasn't been in. It would be weird to me if she didn't come back, based on this miniscule fact alone.

Also, the whole monster truck thing was a bit over the top.. Not that it was out of sync with houses character, but come on..

I still like watching house but I used to love the science and medicine bits. There's barely any of that now, such a different show when compared with season 1 and 2

After the final episode of season 7 I'm willing them to kill it off before it goes the way of Scrubs.
