    Hi

My dell laptop failed recently(have it just under 2 years so warranty out), and i know its the motherboard is faulty and cant be repaired as i dropped it into a shop for them to inspect it.

They quoted me just under 400e to put a new one in, i want to keep the laptop so cant justify writing it off as a loss.

I would like to know if anyone has swapped a motherboard before and is it straight forward? as if so il buy a refurbished board and fit it myelf.

    Thanks

If it is the GPU that failed, Dell extended the warranty on that laptop by 1 year beyond its original warranty.

Straight-forward is not the right word for replacing the mobo on the M1530 but if you are comfortable with electronics etc you will be able to do it.

thanks for reply , is there any soldering needed or is it just plugging stuff apart?

Just pulling stuff apart, but it looks like seriously fiddly work!
I'd say get on Dells case a bit more before you admit defeat - this is most likely due to a manufacturing defect in the graphics card, so your wallet shouldn't be taking a hit!
