Golf, GAA, football (soccer, to speak Americanese)... Something along those lines. Maybe horse racing, too...

Millions of gifts :D But you might need to be more specific

Tickets in general for sports fans can be great if they have a team in their favourite sport that they support

Golf - Depending on the budget it can be anything from a trip to the U.S. Open, set of clubs, vouchers enough to pick their own, a good set of golf balls, a few lessons in their local golf club.

GAA/Football/Soccer - Their teams jersey, an autographed old jersey framed, books on the history of the team.

Maybe horse racing - Can't beat a day at the races for a horse racing fan as they'll be in their element, it could be incorporated into a trip also.

Have you any budget in mind?

If your OH is big into sport you could look at getting a season ticket for matches or for a racecourse nearby.

If he supports an English soccer team you could always buy him a trip over to watch that team play.

Or pay for him to go over to the Grand National in Aintree (April) or to Cheltenham (March).

Signed jeresys, a trip to a racing yard, etc.

There's loads of things you could look at. Have you any more details you could give us to help narrow it down?

You can buy some sort of signed memorabilia of his favourite football team maybe? Tickets to a game away, and make a weekend of it?

Also a good one for horse racing fans is shares in a horse. Obviously it's an extremely small share but its still a bit of fun to follow the horse and have the odd bet on it! I used http://www.ownaracehorse.co.uk/ You can buy a gift voucher for any amount and he can pick the horse he wants himself
