Paypal Question not covered in FAQ

    Hi,

Sold an item for €300 on ebay a while back. Buyer is requesting a partial refund of €30. I've agreed to refund the €30. When the buyer filed the claim, paypal put my account into a negative balance of -300 (the full amount of the item, even though the buyer just wants a partial refund). I cannot refund the customer the 30 until I add 300 to my paypal account to cover the negative balance.

Now, I've paid paypal 300 to clear the negative balance. I need to add the 30euro partial refund by bank transfer.

How do I get my 300 back from paypal? Otherwise they've just taken 300 from me for no apparent reason?

I can't contact them as they say my transaction number isn't a valid payment reference, so not sure what to do.

    Any help appreciated.

You're going to have to contact Paypal about this. I don't think you should have paid that 300 in, nor should they have debited your account by that amount, when it wasn't in contention. If Paypal are claiming the payment reference is invalid, you're going to have to come up with some other way of identifying the dispute. Is there a dispute reference number?

When the buyer disputed the transaction, paypal will automatically place the entire amount on hold until the dispute is resolved. The €300 should be returned to your account when the dispute is closed.
