Astra Problems

While driving on the motorway yesterday, doing about 75mph (3000rpm) the car lost power until it hit 2500rpm and then the power kicked back in. About 30 seconds later the same thing happened except this time it dropped to 2000rpm before the power kicked back in.
I drove at 60mph until I got off the motorway and pulled in and noticed the fans were very loud in the engine, which is very unusual for this car. When I started it again, I couldn't get any hot air from the air con. I know this i usually a coolant issue so I spoke to my mechanic and he siad to top it up with water, which I did but I still have the same problem. I did get hot air briefly (for about 2 minutes) before it went cold again.

Any ideas? I can't see how anything to do with coolant caused the engine to cut back revs, unless it was because of overheating?

How old is it, the 99 to 05s loved blowing HGs.

Any large pools of liquid under the car when you pull out of the drive way?

If you're not getting any hot air I would defeinitely be concerned about coolant. What is the engine temperature gauge showing?

    It doesn't have a temperature gauge, it's the Astra H (2004 model).
No liquid under the car at all.
