    Hi all,

I've been offered a job in Sandyford, I'm living in Glasnevin at the moment. I'm looking for advice on the best way to commute. I'm not entirely sure of the work times yet, but I'll most likely be travelling during the rush hour.

Should I drive, public transport or half/half?

Anyone do this route regularly? Whats best?

    Thanks

Where in Glasnevin are you? 13 to Nassau Street then walk up to Stephens Green and get Luas to Sandyford could be best option.

Check if your new employer operates the taxsaver scheme www.taxsaver.ie and then get a combined bus/luas ticket.

If you are anywhere near an 11a, it runs right into the Sandyford industrial estate at peak times. But who knows what changes will be made to it.

Drive via M50. Seriously. Anything else would likely be a 90 min door to door commute each way. Do-able, via various options given, but you'll have pulled all your teeth out within a month.

The 11a goes nowhere near Sandyford Ind Estate.

The 11 goes to Sandyford Ind Estate in the am and pm peaks.

No 19 or 83 bus to Kellys Corner (top of Camden St) and then Luas from Harcourt St. Driving through town would be a nightmare at rush hour.

16 to the Bleeding Horse and then LUAS, although the 16 is slooooow since it's an everyman bus.

Metro North to the Green then LUAS sorry no time machine

I'd drive and join the M50 at Finglas

The car tailbacks through Sandyford haven't gone away you know, and onto/off the M50 slips at rush hour seeing as advice like "you gotta drive" is taken up by all and sundry there. Plus if where you work don't give you a car spot you have to get in early and pay for on-street and they are on you quick to check the ticket.

All of the above options depends on what part of Glasnevin you're talking about.

One way or another, here's a few things to keep in mind:

There's still heavy traffic around Glasnevin as well as Sandyford, and using the M50 meaning paying a toll.

Using the Ballymun junction is a better option for parts of Glasnevin.

Cycling is a very quick and easy to get from the city centre side of Glasnevin to the Luas at the Green, but less so from the other end of Glasnevin.

Different buses or using the Luas is better or worse depending on where you're living and exactly where you're working.

Sorry, I'll clarify the locations, Glasnevin is the Old Finglas Road, just beside where the Royal Oak Pub used to be, and the office is in Ravenscourt Office Park, Sandyford.

Would I make Sandyford for 9am, if I was on the road at 8am?

11 runs from Wadelai Park in Glasnevin down the Drumcondra Road, so might be within walking distance for the OP.

The route 11 departures from Wadelai Park at 0700, 0730, 0740, 0800, 0815, 0830 and 0845 all operate to Sandyford Industrial Estate.

You could pick it up at Home Farm Road roughly 5 minutes later or indeed in Drumcondra.

I would think that the 0730 departure would certainly get you there for 0900, probably 0840.

Return departures in the evening are at 1615, 1645, 1715, 1730, 1745, 1800 and 1830 from Kilmacud - serving Sandyford Ind Estate between 5 and 10 minutes later.

Otherwise take the 19 or the 83 from the Royal Oak to the top of Camden Street and LUAS from Harcourt stop (a 5 minute walk away).
Route 19 timetable is here and the 83 is here

Time taken would be approximately 30 minutes on the bus and 20 minutes on LUAS.

The results here aren't ideal (Luas would be best), but this should give you some idea of your options

Shelli2 for what it`s worth try the 140 from your place across to Nassau Street. This then gives you options of 5,11,or 47 from two stops outside TCD.

Taking the 140 to it`s terminus at Wilton Tce also gives you a realistic option to walk along the Canal (5 min) to the Charlemont Luas Stop for onward travel

I`d be a little more generous with your alloted timings until you get familiar with the situation on the ground.

As a rough guide an 0700 11 departure from Wadelai Park is usually tracking through Sandyford Estate around 0800.

Back in my day,you would definitely be classed as living in Finglas ! :)
