Matriculation requirements are the minimum requirements to enter the course. Sometimes students achieve the points required for a course but do not gain entry because they have not got acertain grade in a certain subject eg HC3 in Chemistry. Many courses will have a pass in maths as a matriculation requirement. Some courses in the NUI colleges do not require a pass in maths.

Actually, almost but not quite ... not being smart, but just for clarity:

Matriculation requirements are the basic minimum requirements set by a university for entry to the university.

Course requirements are specific extra minimum requirements applicable to a particular course ... e.g. a certain grade in Higher Maths, etc. Course requirements as listed on websites / prospectuses will often (tho' not always) include matriculation requirements.

Provided you satisfy both of those, you will be ranked by points to determine whether you get your place.
