    Hey

I'd been suffering from the flu the last couple of days, my mil took my dd for the night. I was soooo shattered I fell asleep without setting my alarm, got a phone call from work 20 mins after I was due, waking me up. I jumped up!! (if my lil one had been there I would have been awake at 7am!) had my clothes ready the night before. So was out the door and on the motorway within 10 mins. Was driving when I got a phone call not to bother coming in, they were closing the other shop as they couldn't get cover for the manager, I said that's grand. Got another call about 40 mins later (when I had rearranged child care that my dd could be with me.) saying that I had to come into work.

Anyhoo the upshot of this is I refused to go into work as I was told "not to bother" (which I think was the DM's way of being snotty, but then realised she shouldn't close the shop out of spite.)

Could she give me a warning for not coming in? Or could she sack me do u think? After all I was on my way in I accept being late and that shouldn't have happened doesn't happen often, but I'm not sure I'm happy at her reaction to me not coming in. Any idea's on how to handle the eventual aftermath (was in work today but nothing happened, but I'm sure it will)

    x

It does warrant at least a verbal warning. But you should just be honest and explain you were sick etc. Have you a good track record of being on time for work?

IMO you were available for work and you were informed that you were not required. Whether you were late or not should not be an issue. The DM was letting you sweat for 40 minutes - to teach you a lesson, however it did not work in her favour and you have in turn taught her a valuable lesson - treat staff with respect.
