Cork; Alternative rock band with electronic bits

Looking to put together an alternative rock band with some electronic elements. I play the guitar, a bit of synth, and also "produce" some geeky electronic music.

I'm pretty influenced by 90s stuff like the Pumpkins, as well as 80s goth/alternative like Bauhaus et. all, some metal, electronic stuff, trip hop and all that, as well as these at the moment:

    Mass of the Fermenting Dregs

    Collide:

    Cinema Strange:

    Boom Boom Satellites:

    Switchblade Symphony:

I really want something fun and creative and a bit weird, taking it casual but serious about putting out something interesting. I think sharing musical interest and enthusiasm are more important than technical ability to me, but it would be nice to have someone knowledgeable in theory too as I'm a bit **** at it.

Looking for mainly a bassist and second guitarist, would be a bonus if either could also play keys or another instruments. Will be using guitar effects for a lot of the electronic stuff. A lot of my influences have female vocals too.

Been looking for people for ages and never found enough people within the same time frame; hoping with people moved down for college and all that around this time of year there'll be someone up for it.

I think it would be cool too to try and get a bit of a scene going with similar bands, Cork doesn't exactly have much of a goth/alternative thing going on.

I can play rhythm geetar, and have enough effect pedals to hide every screw up, so no will ever know. I'm living in Limerick, but get free travel so I can zip about. Also play the ukulele and random objects, I recently taught myself the sellotape and fork-on-plate.

    May well do.

What influences and stuff do you have, and what do you guys want to play? I'm maybe being a little anal but if I'm busier than expected this year so want to get it right if I'm going to commit, or at least find some people to chat music with :)

Oh yeah, I'm 24 so I'd be looking for people 18-30. Personally age doesn't bother me much but every person I've talked to 30 or over say "I'm too much of an auld fella for you" when they hear my age. Which is funny because I'm starting to feel old, 24 and haven't been in a proper band, what the **** like.

I'll give a bash at whatever's put in front of me. Everything's an instrument! I you need odd sounds, I have some cool gear, some of it DIY.

It's tough being that far away though like, even with free travel. You have to wait around in Limerick junction and all that bollocks.... I go home to clare every 2 weeks and it's a ****ty journey.

What music are you into yourself?

Lately I'm listening to a lot of jazz, Samurai Jazz Quintet in particular, which is more an experimental jazz - glitch fusion sort thing. I'll listen to pretty much anything, besides the Spin FM playlist. Mostly breakcore, experimental noise and ambient, hip hop, especially instrumental hip hop, grindcore, funk, yadda yadda.

I don't really know how well I'd gel with a lot of that to be honest, though there is a definite hip hop and ambient influence in some of my own music.

I could definitely put you in contact with some people that might be interested in collaborating with you - if you're in UL try tracking down a guy called Brendan Murray.

Here's his soundcloud. If you get in contact with him, he's Limerick based and seems to know people that'd be into that.

I'm looking, but time is really sucky for me at the moment. I also need someone who plays guitar or bass to jam with before I can really write songs.

Original band, really want to do some mad stuff and shake things up a bit too, the Cark rock scene could do with a bit of life in it like.

    Hey man,
I think I'd definitely be interested in jamming some time (if you'd have me of course). I play bass and electric guitar and dabble in some ****ty enough production. Basically just looking for someone fresh to jam with I 'spose. Generally, I'm into kinda shoegazey and some electronic stuff I guess. Bands that springs to mind immediately (and thus giving a somewhat warped idea of what I generally listen to...) are Deerhunter, Bonobo, no age, Bjork, TV on the Radio, Crystal Castles etc.- without wanting to sound overly vague, I'd listen to pretty much anything though like. Sorry! I'm always crap at giving an answer when people ask me what music I'm into! Those links sound unreal though, I'd be well up for doing something along those lines.

I'm 20 myself and based in Cork as well. Sher throw me a PM whenever you get a chance!
    Cheers!

That sounds good, though we do need some common ground in music we already listen to, I don't think I really know any of those acts sadly :(

Get better at listing bands :)

I know some people hate that, but it's just too useful as a starting point when jamming and chatting music.

Nah, I agree with you- I've tried playing in bands where people haven't had common ground in terms of taste and it's a disaster. I 'spose I'd be interested in doing something along the lines of these...maybe:

    Crystal Castles:

    Death From Above 1979:

Maybe something along those lines I guess. Let me know what you think anyway...
