    Hi all,
Baby no 3 is being planned,so will probably have to think about changing the car as I will need room for 3 child seats (2 x full size,1 x booster with back).
At the moment we have a 06 Saloon Avensis which has loads of space for now but definitely wont have room for a third child seat.

So here's the problem,I was looking at CBG and auto trader and and had settled on the fact that a 7 seater MPV was what was needed,so went off to watch a bit of TV,switched on Dave just in time to catch the end of Fifth Gear showing a feature on how the boot space of an MPV acts as a crumple zone when rear ended..... completely mangling the extra fold down seats in the boot....so changed my mind pretty quickly!

So does anyone know of an SUV with enough room in the rear seat for 3 child seats?
    Spotted this but not sure on size compared to an Avensis;

Any other ideas appreciated, looking at spending less than €10,000 and with a max petrol 1.8/diesel 2.0

Although not SUVs or MPVs, the renault scenic and I think the citroen picasso have three individual seats in the back that can be moved independently of each other.

Reckon this one would have a fair go at testing that theory:)

The Land Rover Discovery has the best third-row of seats I have come across but it doesn't leave much room for luggage when all the seats are in place. Very few do that job well apart from the Ford Galaxy and the Chrysler Grand Voyager MPVs.

A guy I work with got a Focus C-Max because it could fit 3 child seats across the back seat

there are crumple zones , was making reference to the tank like structure :D also an amazon will just roll over everything anyway, while the passengers enjoy leathery comfort

I have a 2007 Passat and three seats fit fine in the back (2 boosters and one 5 point infant seat). Tried a few other cars and they did not fit (e.g. 5 series). They also fitted fine into a Peugeot 4007 which I had for a while (there is a Mitsubishi equivalent to this model).

I've never seen a crash test result for an Amazon, but big doesn't necessarily equal safe. Have a look at the NCAP results for the Range Rover and Audi Q7 - they don't even do as well as a FIAT 500!

I believe the reason why SUV dont score as high. Now I could be wrong but it's because they lose points for the pendestrian aspect of the test.

toyota verso, 3 full seats in middle row and 2 in the boot, reliable and holds its value

For the RR and Q7 it's driver & front passenger protection that are weak. Have a look on www.euroncap.com for full details of any car they've crash tested.

3 baby seats - it has been raised here and on other boards lots of times. You're talking SMax, C4 Picasso, Honda FRV (3+3). Volvo XC 90 also if you have a lot of money. Don't be put off 7 seaters because of the top gear programme as the kids will be in the middle row and you needn't use the 6th and 7th seat on their account.

I haven't seen any convincing accounts of a saloon working out for 3 baby seats - seems to involve a bit of squashing.

Looks like I need to post this (again). Audi Q7 vs Fiat 500.

The occupants of the fiat would have been killed.

I'm sorry, I don't this. But you need 5 seats. Why do you need to put kids in the boot seats? And how did you go from a 5 seat MPV to "need a SUV" ... ?

C-Max is like 2.5 across, same as the Zafira.

You need to go Touran, Verso, Scenic to get 3 seats across.

S-Max, Grand Scenic, Galaxy then are bigger again.

Look out ones with no spare wheel, and small boot. The latter is just as important as getting 3 seats across.
