icon_minipost.gif droning noise/vibrationicon_quote.gif Hi all. Have a new 2010 landcruiser (old model,lc4) but i am dogged by what i think is a noise/vibration which seems to come from the front end some. It only appears when engine is around 1500-1800 rpm. I can particulary hear it when driving at the 30mph/50kph in 4th gear. It sounds like theres a hole in my exhaust its such a deep drone. Sometimes it can be heard cruisin along at 60mph/100kph and accelerating slightly uphill. Sounds like concord. Mr T first said there was a noise alright and that it was one of the sump panels vibrating, then said it was normal noise coming from the air box after tryin for a day to sort it out and takin panels on and off. Just wonderin if any of u guys ever came across airbox noise or air intake pipe noise or indeed anything like this before or had any ideas or clues as to wot it might be. thanks in advance.Back to topicon_profile.gif icon_pm.gif

Could it be the transfer box for 4wd? these can go dry, think there was a problem with seals on earlier models. Hope you get it sorted as I'm a little jealous in my 97 LC.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Can you hear it when you just rev the engine, at a stand-still ?

No cant be heard at a standstill. The "best" time to hear it is when travelling at about 40kph in 4th gear and slightly up hill.

    1500-1800 rpm in 4th gear at 40kmp.
Are you sure you'r not simply in too low a gear. I have a LC and this seems very low revs for that gear/kph.

I was given the advice never to drive the cruiser over 2000 rpm if i wanted any sort of fuel economy. Begining to think that they are more comfortable around 2300/2400 rpm. Roughly where do u drive your LC Pakalasa. What rpm wod u roughly change gear and wod u use 6th much. I had an L200 before so its a whole different driving experience.

When you go over 2,000 RPM the turbo kicks in, so that does increase the fuel usage a little, but it's only for a short while so it's not really a problem.
Try driving with the revs up that bit more when accelerating or going up a hill and see how it goes.
If you're driving along at the same speed, say 110 kph on the motorway, and you have the revs above 2000 then you will waste a lot of fuel. It's better to go up the gear and bring the revs below 2000.
I find driving in say a built up area in 3rd / 4th a pain. It just doesnt feel right. I suppose it's the weight of the thing. But on the open road in 6th, nice. :D

its a new jeep, send it back to the garage and tell them to sort it out, is it not still under warrenty?

i agree with pakalsa seems like you are labouring the engine

fuel economy is one thing, but diesels need to be driven on , you will have a much cleaner engine internally and overall less wear and tear

Aye its still under warranty surely. Over 2 years left still. Made a wee typing error on my earlier post. Shud have been 50 kph in 4th gear instead of 40 kph but prob do need to " drive her on a bit" :D

I'd a car before that developed a sound like an aeroplane. It turned out the be the wheel bearing, but I can't imagine you'd have that problem with such a new vehicle:confused:

Naw. Defo not a wheel bearing. Experienced those before. Only hear the noise when engine is under a wee pull.
