Year Out

Im due to qualify in January 2011. I am currently working in practice and I just feel the last 3 years have drained me. I would like to eventually try industry and see if I prefer that.

Anyway my question is I am thinking of taking a year out and work in a clothes shop or something and just go mad and not have to worry about work for once and hopefully at the end of the year feel ready to go back to the daily grind again...by then I am hoping the jobs situation in accountancy may have improved.

Would this gap look bad on my CV? I know a lot of people take the year out but its to go travelling and broaden the mind etc...but working abroad does not appeal to me.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Hi
As someone who did something like this, I can say it's a terrible idea.
My year out turned into 2 years of low paid jobs and very little money.
Eventually to get back into accounting I took a job at way below the qualified rate.

It would be a good idea for you to get out of practice.. it is demoralising and doesn't suit everyone!
Work abroad or just travel, work in fund accounting, work in industry, but don't leave your job until you have something else lined up and don't work in a minimum wage job.
