Challenge: Cheapest Car to Insure (ONLINE)

I've been playing around with a number of brokers and models of car, but simply can't seem to get a quote of under 2k. Most won't insure me full stop on a 1.3l+. (22 m on a provisional, but even with the full licence box checked they won't quote).

So basically, what would be the cheapest model of car (lowest engine size and tax bracket) to get onto the road? Micra or something?

Polo 1.0l. Not a bad looking thing either compared to a micra.

The car you are insuring is only one factor that an insurance company take into account when calculating a premium.

As all ready stated the car you pick (within reason) isn't really going to change the quote that much.

It's the damage you'll do if you crash that causes the premium to increase. For example if you crash and hit an Aston, spin off it and write-off a Ferrari, at which point you hit a Bentley and then finally you tip off a Zonda your car pales into insignificance!!

Subaru Vivio - 660cc. :) Family member has one, they're horrible(the car) but the insurance is €200.00 PA. For a 24 yr old. They also run on the smell of an oily rag and never break. ..........But they are horrible.

If you're looking Lada might actually pay you to drive one of their cars!

What do you call an open-top lada?

Them crappy 1.0 litre polos wouldn't hold a candle to the Micra in terms of reliability, longevity and driveability...Not that the Micra is by any means knockout. Borrowed a friends 1.0 polo for a few days once when I was between cars and it was just bad bad bad.

Theres the option of the two seater commercial too. Corolla/ Yaris/ Peugeot 306/ Peugeot 206/ Ford Focus/ Fiesta etc. car derived van. Bear in mind you can only carry yourself and one passenger but if thats all you need to carry ever it might be an option. Also bear in mind that not all insurance companies or brokers will quote you on one for social, domestic and pleasure use but those who do will generally quote you considerably cheaper than the passenger version of same vehicle. If taxed commercially it should be under €300 I think for any of the light commercial vehicles I mentioned...There had being talk of this commercial tax being done away with if the van was not being used for commercial purposes but not sure of the current status of this

Online quotes are always crap for inexperienced under 25 drivers. I know, since i had a similar hunt for insurance a few months back. Ringing around to brokers saved me hundreds over online quotes.

What was your final quote/car/insurer out of interest?

Anyone know of the best insurer for young male drivers and if there's any way of reducing premiums (i.e. Ignition course etc...)

Sit down with a phone and a Golden Pages and ring every ins co and a good selection of brokers. Forget about online quotes.
