I know this is not Zombie-specific but since this is my favorite time of year to watch scary movies I threw together a little schedule for my plans for the month, even though we're 4 days into it already...

This list will most likely change and I will try and repost any changes, just in case anyone is following/watching along. :D

EDIT - I realize Midnight Meattrain is NOT really a classic. I neglected to place that in the right place. It'll get updated.

    The Thing! awesome film

is this a dvd or tv schedule?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,394 ✭✭✭DakotaYoda

Yep - The Thing is one of the best, but that's just me.

I'm a movie geek and take every Halloween-time to make sure I watch all appropriate horror movies during the month. It just seems fitting - the list is just what I'm watching.

Watch along if ya like and comment next day.

"I just wanna go back to my shack and get drunk"... just passed that part of the movie. :D The transformation scenes in The Thing are freakin' great. American Werewolf in London shoulda made my list for it's transformation scenes alone. Freakin' great for when it was made - hell - it still holds up pretty well I think.

Well - The Thing reaffirmed itself and one of my favorite all time movies. Carpenter just freakin' nails it and Kurt Russell is perfect. The gloom and sense of isolation really hit and the burning fires in the starkness of the arctic... just really well done. Beautiful.

A prequal is being worked on... little nervous as to how that will come out but it would be neat to her more of the story of the Norwegian scientists, etc.

EDIT: I may not make Salem's Lot tonight due to gaming obligations but I will try and catch part of it at least... namely the part where the Danny Glick the vampire is floating outside his still-alive friend's window. Freaks me out every time...

Didn't get through all of Salem's Lot last night but I watched some as I was setting up the game room for a bit of D&D last night.

    Good stuff.

May swap Alien and Planet Terror as I'm in the mood for some zombie/infected good fun. Either way - one of them is being watched tonight!!

Sorry for the double... errr.... triple posting in a row.

But earlier I mentioned work on a The Thing Prequal and low and behold Ain't It Cool News has a story on it today. Not read it myself yet but enjoy!

That is a long list. Where do you find time to watch them all?

Well... I generally do a good job of making time for the things I really want to do. I'm married w/ 2 kids and work full time. Kids go to bed and I turn on a movie. Maybe not every night but most. That's just my method... I'm a movie addict. :D

But during October I make special time to watch scary movies... it's just the right thing to do.

this sounds like fun (ill probably be a nervous wreck by the end of the month though :D)
glad i missed Salems lot - i saw it when i was about 10/11 and i still remember how scared i was - i remember the scratching at the windows and i was too scared to sleep with my back to the window for weeks - good stuff but i cant see me watching it any time soon

im looking forward to planet terror

Well - I subbed Planet Terror for Alien last night as I had recently rewatched Ailen, am busy this evening and really wanted to make sure I got to watch Planet Terror this week.

Planet Terror - how do I love thee? Let me count the ways?

    1. Machete 'fake' trailer at the begining
    2. Rose McGowan has machine-gun/grenade launcher leg.
    3. Marley Shelton and her 3 'friends'
    4. The psycho babysitter twins.
    5. The fake 'film lost' break in the middle - still trying to figure out how the whole place goes up flames and just who/what is El Ray??
    6. Part's of Carpenter's Escape From New York musical score throughout the movie...
    7. The way Tom Savini dies - pulled into pieces is freakin' great.
    8. The way Josh Brolin gets infected - YUCK!!!!! - also his slower progression of the infection.
    9. JT's perfect BBQ sauce
    10. Riding a mini bike through zombies.... seriously.

Anyway - fun freakin' movie folks. Take it for what it is in and enjoy!!!

i stayed up really late last night watching land of the dead for the first time - i enjoyed it

i didn't find the zombies as scary as in other movies (shamblers or fast zombies) because somehow they aren't as scary if they aren't completely brain dead

i was like a zombie myself today with lack of sleep - still looking forward to planet terror tonight though

Yeah I had a tough time w/ LotD. Just seemed pretty stale - and never seen Hopper mail in a performance before that flick. He really didn't even need to be in the thing...

Really not crazy about the smart-Z either. You're right - they seem less scary for some reason.

On my list for the weekend so far i have

    - Ed Wood. know it's not a horror but still.
    - I've seen all the movies on your list recently bar PT so may coax the gf into watching that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,394 ✭✭✭DakotaYoda

Was on the run last night so I didn't get to watch anything... but Evil Dead weekend commences starting tonight w/ the original Evil Dead.

HUGE Bruce Campbell fan... and the Raimi's aren't too shabby either. Looking forward to it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭anomalous

im substituting the evid dead weekend with an alien weekend might even throw in the first predator (absolutly love that movie)

due to technical issues i didnt get to watch planet terror last night so im going to add it in to the weekend too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,394 ✭✭✭DakotaYoda

    Well...

Evil Dead weekend was a joy. I watched ED2 w/ the commentary and it is one of the best I've heard. I pick up so many tips and tricks from commentary tracks - most are really fun to listen to and I learn something new on nearly everyone.

Army of Darkness still kills me... it is definitely different from the other 2 ED movies but it holds a special place in my heart. I very clearly remember the first time I saw it - it was semi-life changing. Heh.

And this week we feature found footage. I missed Cloverfield last night as I was watching football and fell asleep early. :) I'll watch it again soon.

I'm a big fan of "found footage", shaky-cam or whatever you want to call it - as long as its done correctly and the subject is appropriate. Some people positively hate it and think it's way overused.

Not sure if I'm watching the US Quarantine or the Spanish [REC] yet tnite. [REC] is better but I've only seen most of Quarantine so I think I will sit through the whole thing tonight.

    Happy viewing!!

watched Alien 1 & 2 at the weekend (only ones worth watching really) and grindhouse - that movie is so good in so may ways

havnt been able to watch anything this week but i think ill watch the spanish rec tomorrow i saw quarantine before and wasnt really that impressed so im hoping this one will be better

i think i will watch the blair witch for the laugh as well - havnt seen it since it was in the cinema and i need a good laugh - remember when it first came out and everyone was saying it was a real documentary (for about a week) well we went to it thinking it was real and it scared the bejaysus out of us :D (my god we were stupid)

Nice! I agree - first 2 Alien's were the best by FAR. 3 was ok - just not my style... and we'll not bring up 4.

Kind of messed w/ my order a bit and neglected to notice I'm missing a couple of the movies I had scheduled to watch.

Since I opted to not watch Blair Witch yet, and I agree w/ your sentiments - just a good, silly scare movie - I watched The Last Broadcast last night. It's still "found footage" but is used a bit differently. It was alright - kept me entertained and didn't seem to drag too badly...

I did watch Quarantine the other night. Not great - but again - it kept me entertained!

Just realized I forgot to put Pontypool on this list anywhere. I'll have to add it as I fell in love w/ that movie...

I watched Dead Meat last night. Looks like it cost a tenner to make but I really enjoyed it. The premise alone of zeds in Leitrim and the hilarious performance by the auld fella from zombie bashers made it well worth the watch. Started to watch the zombie diaries then but nodded off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,394 ✭✭✭DakotaYoda

Didn't make any movies last night - several of Rogue's finest Mocha Porters distracted me.

I did get my hands on a good copy of Home Movie so I hope to check that out soon. Looks interesting. More found footage stuff.

Dead Meat - I've watched most of it but didn't get to the end. Dvd kept locking up on my. Was fun while it worked.

Zombie Diaries - I understand why you feel asleep. :) Rather lousy IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 849 ✭✭✭adser53

yeah it was a bit hit & miss alright. I have to pick a good 'un tonight or the missus will banish horror movies altogether :D

just finished watching REC and it scared the crap out of me!

it was so much better than Quarantine i really want to watch the second one at some stage now - has anyone seen it is it worth watching?

i dont think i can watch anything else scary again today or i wont be able to sleep tonight - at least film 4 is having a star trek marathon weekend :)
