Tried searching on this forum for any info on the Sony NEX models but nothing seems to come up.
I am a complete noobie when it comes to photography but i am interested in the NEX models because they are so compact and they seem to get good reviews. However all i have read are reviews and i would love to know if anyone on here has any personal experience with Either the NEX3 or the NEX5.

I am thinking of buying the NEX3 because it is cheaper and i dont need the 1080i video and i dont really care about the magnesium body. Apart from these 2 differences is there any other difference that may be worth forking out another 100-150 euro for the same camera basically?

I have the NEX-5 - and love it! The only other advantages of the NEX-5 over the NEX-3 are the larger grip and ability to use a wireless IR remote (though it's not supplied).

My review of the NEX is here: http://blog.warehouseexpress.com/sony-alpha-nex-5/ and I have a NEX-specific site at http://nextended.com (though I badly need to push some updated articles up there). The majority of the shots over the past 2months on my photoblog have been shots with the NEX http://photoaday.ideasasylum.com/ (expand the info section to check the camera I used).

There's a new firmware due in 2 weeks which will update the user interface and menus and that should resolve most of the criticisms raised in some reviews.

Personally, I think they are great cameras and should be good for anyone, even without photography experience. The automation mode works well but there's plenty of manual control in the other modes if you need it. I use it for a variety of subjects but mostly family/kids shots and night-time landscapes. The only real disadvantage is the current lens selection, which is a bit limited but due to expand in 2011. I'd recommend the 18-55 unless you have a specific reason for getting the 16mm (the 16mm in very compact but not very flexible and the 18-55 will produce better images). Also, if you need a long zoom you'll need to get the 18-200 but that is quite a big lens to carry around all the time on the small NEX body - worth bearing in mind if you think you'll be taking lots of wildlife shots (in which case I don't think the NEX is the right camera)

Feel free to ask me any specific questions.
