Triathlon Clubs

    Hi, i am looking to do my First Traithlon Next year have being trainning hard in the pool till about 2 months ago when my Gym Membership was up and havent hit a pool every since.

    I cycling alot and trying to get out and run when i can but looking at what a club could do for me, I only know of One club in Cork, Cork Traithlon Club, anyone a member of this club and how much is it to join and how many work shops do they have each month.

    Im all messed up with Training, Since i start back up in College getting the time to get out is going to be hard.

    I have nothing against triathlon clubs - and know nothing at all about Cork-Tri except that anyone from there I've bumped into at races have seemed perfectly decent people.....However, you do not need to join a triathlon club to get fit enough to do a triathlon. They are not as difficult as some would like you to think.
    If you can swim at all, and it sounds like you can swim reasonably well, then you should be capable of completing a sprint triathlon already - particularly if you cycle as well.
    An olympic (and beyond) just takes a bit more time and training discipline.

    Really joining a club has two advantages - first the social aspect. It's good to have some other people to train, socialise and go to races with. It can be good craic. The first few times arriving in transition on your own, knowing no-one, can be a bit daunting for some people I suppose. That said, if you prefer cycling alone, or in small groups, the peleton style outings might annoy you.
    Secondly, it can be good for training discipline and training expertise and tips. You'll pick up lots of invaluable little tips about everything from bike-racking to elastic running laces to nutrition - lots of little things you can't even think of - from more experienced people.
    Structured training is great if the times suit u. With three kids and a job with late hours they don't suit me. Hasn't ever stopped me and I do 3 or 4 olympics and a HIM most summers.
    I'm normally on my way back from the Wicklow Hills on a Sunday morning to bring kids to soccer, GAA dancing whatever etc etc etc by the time my local club - Belpark which is free to join - are setting out. I'm never home from work in time to do the swimming classes....so pointless to join.

    Bottom line - if you need structure to maintain discipline - join a club. If you want to meet like minded people - join a club. If you just want a goal to focus on for winter training and are perfectly happy with your training regime and cycling/running buddies there's no problem doing that without a club.

    discipline, is not a problem for me, i was up at 6am every morning and in swimming for 6.30.

    the problem i do have in Training is my diet, its all over the place.
    if i got my nutrition right i would be flying.

    i dont have Winter Running gear so i need to buy some if i want to do one next year was hoping to get out today but looking outside now is a no no. reason the gym comes in handy. but to much bills at the moment.
