Hopefully someone can help me here.

If a person has a full licence and has 3rd party insurance, how many passengers are they covered to carry? Someone has recently told me that they are only cover to carry 3 + the driver. Which doesnt make any sense to me.

If they only have four seatbelts in their car then they are telling the truth, but it wouldn't be a policy issue.

Standard car, can carry 4 passengers and 1 driver all with seat belts. Think it must be crossed wires somewhere along the way saying they are only insured to carry driver and 3 passengers

    What is the standard car?
There are cars with pretty much anything between 2 and 9 seats.
It's disclosed in field S.1 in VRC.
You can carry as many passengers as it's stated there.

do check the t&c of your policy though in case there's some bizzare clause.

generally third partys (which includes passengers in your car) will always be paid out regardless anyway, but the insurance company will try get the money back off you. i guess overloading a car would reduce any potential claim from them though.
