    Hi there,

Im in need of getting a car this week and my head is wrecked in not knowing what type I should be looking for. I have checked almost eveything on donedeal and carzone. Firstly, what is the minimum nct I should be looking at?

    Main criteria:
    Max budget - €2K
engine size - up to 1.4 max ( need to save money so cheap running costs)
Doors - 4 or 5 ( il have it til it dies and will often have a passenger or 2)

No need for diesel as only do average mileage.

A couple have caught my eye but Short NCT put me off, is this wrong way of thinking?

Ive been looking at likes of clio, fiesta, getz, ibiza etc. just so confused, ideally would like a focus or golf but beggars cant be choosers :( so if anyone has any input I would greatly appreciate it. thanks.

Whatever you do don't rush into buying a car quickly. Narrow your list down to about 5 cars that you like and take everyone of them for a test drive and read some reviews online. Buying a car on impulse or in a rush you may well end up buying trouble.

thanks for the info so far,

No I wont rush into anything. In fact thats my point I think I may be over cautious for the budget. For example the corolla in one of the links the NCt is short so I would probably avoid that. I do not know much about cars and only know the basics of what to check but Im afraid I may miss out on a perfectly decent car by refusing anything that doesnt have an 2012 NCT. Thats why I was wondering what others would class as being decent or worth a punt on.

Its a stressful job trying not to waste 2k. I hear the usual " your just buying other peoples problems" I was hoping the good folk on here could give a useful push in the right direction. :)

The generation of Corolla in the links are extremely reliable.

The fourth link has NCT for 2 years and is cheap.

    Take it for a spin.

As long as the car has 12 months nct, I would not discount buying it. Most of those Corollas/Almeras pass without any bother. Friend has a 12 year old Almera and passes every time without fail. Nct guy says that you only have to was the older corolla and almeras to pass the nct:D:D

Fiesta is more like it. low milage and from a dealer, presume price is negotiable.
