How much do you think it will cost?
You probably looking at between €250 - €300

Join the AA for €100 odd. Ring and tell them you just bought the car and would like them to bring it home to Athlone for you as it has no tax.

I won't be able to help but I'm curious: tell us about the car and why it needs to be towed.

Engine damaged, not driving, need to shift it from dublin where it broke down.

Does your insurance policy not include breakdown cover?

I'll get it to Athlone for you.

Now, what car park filled with tyre marks will I be picking it up from?

No longer insured on the car, ...

But was it insured at the time it broke down? It could still be covered.

    Fail.

    Fail.
Sorry I just see it as ludicrous that you need your car to be transported to Athlone ASAP and yet you have no tax or insurance on it.

It's either been broken a while or it wasn't taxed & insured in the 1st place when it broke.

Maybe you should have asked the question before you post comments.

The car was insured and taxed, it broke down, couldn't afford insurance, therefore no point taxing it, it is parked in a friends house now, I have another car so did not need to move the damaged car immediately.

My friend is selling house now, need car moved.

    hope that will satisfy you,

    Batt

Could be any number of reasons including an imminent sale or mechanic starting work on it? Either way it doesn't matter, if somebody has a recommendation for a towing service then post it otherwise butt out

Did you notify the insurance company at the time? If so, they might recover it for you if you were insured at the time of breakdown. Not all the way to Athlone but at least off your friends drive.

Good to hear. For future reference, always see what your insurance company can do for you before you give up on it and leave it sitting. :)

You'd be surprised how helpful some can be.

I had a second car so just went ahead and used that, the car itself is a sports car and insurance was killing me anywaiy, it was on third party fire & theft and i don't know if it was covered by insurance company to be towed such a long way!

A jeep/van + weight of a trailer + weight of a car wont be covered on a class B license so make sure they've a class C and are licensed and insured to tow a vehicle.
