DTT Ireland Aerial Install Question Please

Hi Everyone - Quick Noob Question Please ?

Not looking for a lot of detail as I'll trawl the web for the fine detail. I'm just looking for confirmation or a pointer in the right direction thanks.

Never installed an aerial before, bought one of these with the intent of installing in a loft (in Rearcross Tipperary).

    Televes DAT 45 HD
    http://www.televes.com/ingles/producto/fotos.php?refe=1495

Is it just a matter of mounting it in the loft, connecting cable (bought some PF100, f-connectors, tape, signal strength indicator etc.) & attaching directly to the input of the Plasma ? or should I be connecting anything else in between the TV & Aerial (don't want to damage the plasma etc..).

I know the aerial I bought comes with a built in MRD (not sure what it fully is yet) & that it has a passive / active mode for some 'intelligence' relating to power levels. I did purchase an option 12V PSU in case I needed to connect it but just wasn't sure in terms of what might be needed in the Rearcross area if Tipperary - the house is approx 1/2 mile from the village near a mountaintop.

If there's anything else I need to buy in order to be able to complete the install, please let me know as I want to avoid not having somethnig to hand that's necessary on the day. or If anyone might now what transmitter / direction I need to try pointing the aerial at , that would be great too.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

    Yes.

If the signal isn't good enough then it needs to go outside.

Depends where you live. I've no idea which Transmitter "Rearcross" uses as Tipperary is a big place.

I think many if not all aerials are pointing east/s east, two aerials VHF & UHF. Most likely Mt Leinster. N West would be Maghera, West would be Woodcock Hill and S West would be Mullaghanish but that may be shielded by the hills to the south.

Have a look at the houses around the area, that will guide where to point the aerial. If your house is in a high location you may be able to receive a number of transmitters.

@ watty: Rearcross (east of Newport on the Thurles road).

Just installed a Sony 810 Freesat/DTT TV for my brother in Athlone , DTT from Cairn Hill , Used a Coat Hanger placed in the Attic and get 80% Signal Strength, BTW the RTE HD Test Transmission is exceptional , Also the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on BBC HD on the Same TV was extremely Impressive.

Just go with a metal Hangar and see how you get on !!!

Potentially a choice of 3 to 4 down to nothing depending on exact "bump".

Also watching it on Sony 5810, v. good show.

Thank you for that feedback too The Cush.

Very grateful to everyone for taking the time to reply to my query.

Think I have everything I need (probably bought more bits n pieces of hardware than I really need!) & looking forward to giving it a go.

    Cheers
