Multitasking sucks!

Is there anyway to disable it either legit or via cydia? I't a pain in the hole, some app's like apple remote just don't work properly, when I wake up the phone to change a song it doesn't connect any more unless I double click the home button, hold the remote icon for 5 secs, hit the minus symbol, go back into the app and it works fine. Many other app's just sit there and drain the battery in the background, like gps app's, the only tell tale is the small compass symbol on the bar at the top.

All in all, multitasking hasn't added one positive for my needs, so it should be something that can be toggled on and off.

The only conclusion I can come to is this: You're doing it wrong. Most apps don't run in the background, a few do (GPS and music apps for instance), everything else down there is just frozen in time and stored away, not actually running.

Remote took about a second, if that, to reconnect to my library.

And it's 2 seconds holding it, no need to hype up a minor problem that might not actually exist outside your head.

If multitasking hasn't been of benefit to you then you maybe a smartphone isn't for you.

Wow maybe a smart phone isn't for me! I'll ignore that patronising comment!

If anyone has a practical addition to my thread, ideally with a solution or remedy I'm all ears, perhaps it's a bug with the latest version of apple remote, as I've been using it for years without a problem, I hadn't used it in a while, but tonight, it drove me mad, I reset the PC, router and phone and the only way to get the phone (iPhone 4) to reconnect was to kill the background app and relaunch it, pain in the ass, does anyone else have this issue with their phone?

ztoggle is exactly what I was looking for.

I've also noticed when I use the camera from the multitask bar It never works. I've to close it and reopen it.

Altho I don't agree with OP it's probably the best feature of the 4.0

You called me a retard because of that post? You're an angry little man, aren't you?

If you really have those issues it's your phone that's causing them as I wasn't able to replicate them.

No app doesn't work for me from the multitask bar, I'd suggest a full restore because there's something wrong. Although if your phone is jailbroken that may also be the cause if you installed something that's messing your phone up.

I still don't see anything particularly wrong with my original post, I answered your questions, educated you in how multitasking works and threw in a few (HILARIOUS) comments on your angry white man post.

I'd like to remind everyone that insulting other members is a no no. Less of the personal attacks please and stay on topic.

I have to say I hate multitasking. I've been using smart phones for years, both Apple and Nokia. And I have to say I don't like it. There should be an option to select what App's run with multitasking and what App's shouldn't.

If an App doesn't support proper multitasking under Apples headings, it should just close and not sit in the background. However subtle it must affect battery life. At night I might close 10 or more Apps that frankly have no reason to be open.

It doesn't use any battery. Their state is just frozen, they're not doing anything.

Unless they're one of the types of apps designated to run in the background, like music or GPS, but I'd assume only one of each at a time.

While thats the way it's supposed to be and the way Apple have described it, in reality it is not as simple as that. I have owned all of the iPhone versions over the years and have never experienced as many mysterious battery discharges as I have since I installed 4.0. Unless I think to close all of the multitasking apps before going to bed, more times than not I will find my phone has discharged overnight by 50% or more.

I imagine it's down to some rogue app store apps not properly designed to make use of the multitasking feature.
