My mother asked if I could get something for her (to help her in a professional capacity). Would anyone perhaps have a list (say with postcodes) or map or something that details the Dublin ambulance catchment areas?

    Cheers :)

A ll of Dublin is covered by the ambulance services, both HSe and DFB. Ring 999 and you will get a vehicle, therefore that should give you the answer you want

Dublin City and county is divided into 6 defined catchment areas for accident and emergency cover by the two ambulance services. Anybody is entitled to present themselves at any A&E for treatment, if they call an ambulance they will be brought to the hospital assigned to the catchment area of the incident. (not always the nearest). The six areas are Southeast - St Vincent's, Elm Park; Southwest - AMNCH, Tallaght; South City centre - St. James', Rialto. Northeast - Beaumount hospital; Northwest - JCM, Blanchardstown and North City centre - Mater hospital, NCR.
    Hope this helps.

Thank you Muas, that was pretty helpful. Do you think there is any way I could get the breakdown of the post codes or areas covered by those 6 divisions?

that would be a difficult thing to do as it's not done by post codes, it more like certain roads would be the boundry, but if there was a specific location your interested in put it up her or pm me and i'll tell you the catchment area.
to tell you the truth it's and area that should be revisited by all the hosptials.
for instance the border for adult clients to go to JCM is the coldcut road in quarryvale, but the ambulance that looks after that area is from tallaght fire station, so the ambulance has to travel out of area across the liffey for the deposition, where it would make logistical sence to travel back to tallaght hospital and keep the ambulance in it's own area, mean while that ambulance is busy another has to come in from dolphiins barn or nut grove. it has a knock on effect.it would make more sence to have the liffey as the border, and this is only one example

I see... I'd love to be able to get the map or details if possible. Do you know how I might get it? As far as I know the hospital physiotherapists use it as a guide as to which hospitals their outpatients should attend. My mother runs a dept in a hospital (as much detail as I'm willing to go into :)) and is looking to do something similar in order to run it more effectively. She's um... finding it difficult to acquire however.

How far west does 7 cover on the naas road or on the N81? Would rathcoole be a boundry where they wont go past or if needed do they ever travel as far as naas?

n81 is blue gardinia and naas rd is black church..but i've often been sent to kilteel, and no we'd service tallaght hospital with out of area cases.

Hospital catchment areas were introduced in Dublin in January 1999 as a result of this report Link it is quite possible that the HSE records office may still have a copy of the map referred to as map Z41. Try contacting them here link

catchment areas were used long before jan 1999.

for the OP. as far as i can remember there is a map in the ambulance entrance of jcm, just past the resus rooms, and it's marked with all the catchments and hospitals.

The present catchment areas have been in place since July 1998 and were adopted on the day Tallaght hosp opened.

sorry... your dead right, i mis read that post, your quite right when tallaght was opened there was a rehash of the old areas. i was off coarse referring to the catchments in general in operation up to that.:o
but either way areas should be revisited, taking into account the housing developments and general population and ease of access to these hospitals.

Then the hospital should be in a position to tell your mother their catchment areas. Most/all hospitals are declining referrals for all departments from outside their catchment area at present, so such info should be readily available to her from her employer/manager and not require you to be on boards looking for it!

Something doesn't add up here, the hospital will set up and define their own catchment areas, they will be best able to help her. An e-mail to the CEO of here hospital asking for the areas will get them.

So you come to a forum to ask and are all secretive yet want us to tell all, sounds fishy to me.

You would think... I don't know the details but people kept welching on her.

I'm only secretive in as far as not letting on her identity (if it was me I wouldn't give a toss). She expressed she was having difficulty getting this and asked me if I could find it for her on the HSE website. I couldn't, but told her I could possibly find out from some helpful peeps on boards. I followed drill's advice and gave her the number for the Ambulance Headquarters in Phoenix Hall.
    sounds fishy to me.
    It's not.
