Has anyone ever tried making their own pigeon magnet?? If so could they share their thoughts on it? And how they made it of course!:)

i suspect the first piece of the puzzle would be a wiper motor off a car and maybe the wiper arm too with a second one welded to the first. just a simple stand then for the whole lot

I made one out of wiper motor and bit of scrap steel had lying around. Wired it up with long lead and dimmer switch that plugs into my battery pack. Made 2 wands out of 8 mm rod that slide into hole and tighten up with thumbscrews, whole thing cost me €20 !!PA030205.jpgPA030206.jpgPA030204.jpg

TBH I havnt progressed anymore with it since, good few pigeons in the winter barley at work now so have to pull the finger out !!

I was planning on buying some proper magnet decoys with the spinning wings at Ballinlough this Sun and mounting them on it

sonofthegun - how did you sort out the speed controller, I was thinking something along the line of an in-line light dimmer switch

its simple to make em only thing is you need to watch the weight or you will be going through batteries like fcuk.
we based ours on that vid but stipped down a lot of the weight and corrected the speed to make the batteries needed lighter.

Finally got round to finishing off my magnet today. Got the wiring sorted, low speed on the wiper motor seems right.

This pic shows how I attach the wand to the motor

This onw shows how the foam decoys attach to the other end of the wand

I see you are using a Motorbike battery, how long do you get out of it in constant use?
or do you just flick it on when you see flights coming?

Well, Deben or not. tis a small battery, I was expecting a car battery.

    8.5 hours is great.

Although, I'd be well gone home after 3 or four hous sitting in the one spot.
Was shooting over some Barley and Wheat the other evening before dusk.
    Great craic

Yeah I was expecting it to be dead as a duck when I got back, but you're right 3 or 4 hours is enough time for me too !! Was well impressed with the battery, didnt think it would last half as long.

I have no idea how fellas can stay there all day.
I love outdoors, but i love moving around from place to place, and stopping to chat the land owners along the way

Finally got to try it out in the rain this evening. Cut 50 acres of winter barley mon/tues, drizzle stopped us baling about 5 this afternoon so set up the hide and magnet and decoys.

A few birds travelling about when suddenly 2 veer off and head straight for me, pop up, left, right, 2 woodies on the ground :D

Packed up then as it was lashing down and Im still suffering the aftermath of man-flu :(

Will give it a proper lash this wend
