first off do you all have bulk tank contracts or do you think risk it and what you save by not paying contract will more than cover your call out and parts cost,Just looking for opinoins
I have an ice bank bulk tank that is about 25 years there has not been a service contract on it for near a decade and due to its age think it might be a good idea.
Reason been i just priced a new tank and based on prices think the one i have will do for a good while longer i then priced a new cooler unit which on the scale of things bulk tank isnt bad but would like to hold though for 12 months and maybe change for a second hand dx unit then
I was just wondering what kind of money per annum people are paying for a contract and what there getting for the money also any recomendation as to companies i should be looking at for contract

I pay €400 p.a. for a service contract on a 5000 litre Packo ice bank tank. In the last 12 months they were out about 4 times to fix worn parts, in the previous 24 months not at all. Is it worth it for the convenience? Probably. I think Kerry require their suppliers to have a service contract. In any case, the charge comes off the milk cheque once a year.

have a contract about 420 a year on 600gallon tank
have not had a problem for two years at least came to service it recently and have had to get them back twice
if it aint broke dont fix it.

    thanks for info
you say kerry insist on contract do they have a list of contractors you must use or can you choose your own
same question open to info on other co ops
reason i ask is i have a neighbour who is in the refrigeration trade and has told me he could take care of tank and cooler and has acess to any parts needed for either
He is willing to give me a contract for similar money as has been mentioned for this i will get two maintaince visits a year no charge on any calls and he will be available Monday from 6am till friday at 10pm saturday 7am till 6pm and sunday 9am to 2pm outside these hours 90% of the time he will be available but as he said by using these guideline times it allows him a social life
also most parts will be covered but no garuntee on compressor over 2 years old gas should there be aleak once the firist maintaince is complete will be covered
as he is only starting out in the business i would like to give him a shot i know two other lads that have used him and both say he is reliable and one has had him out after 9pm on a sunday no contract in place and only charged him 40 euro and problem was solved no need for a call back since so he seems good to his word

I only think Kerry insist on a service contract, tbh I've never bothered to find out as I'd probably have one anyway - our tank is more than 10 years old by now. So I don't know if they have a list of approved contractors, though they might have - it sounds like the kind of thing people do nowadays. The deal you have outlined sounds reasonable. I guess most people in that trade are thinking of long-term business, so they're bound to come when called out.
