I want a 13inch laptop, very thin, no disk drive, will be using for college work.

I bought a Dell V13 laptop, perfect body etc but fan too loud and caused it to slightly vibrate, returning it.

Would spend no more than 700 or 800 I think.

    Any ideas?

Acer Timeline range will be ideal. Battery life is so good for college. Picking which one is the next question

Do you game? Are you doing an engineering course that involves CAD etc? Photoshop etc??

Just bought a 3820tg for college/other from laptopsdirect for ~€900. 4GB/2.5 odd GHz i5. In theory a fantastic little laptop. The battery life is ridonkulous (10-12 hours) and it's quite asthaetically pleasing as it's fairly thin and light. The chiclet keyboard is nice too.

The only downsides (on my one at lest) have been tempermental wireless functionality (drops in and out sometimes) and a slightly flickering screen. I've been using it for a couple of weeks, but I haven't had the time to properly suss it out yet. I've literally only been typing lecture notes in word. I havent downloaded anything on it, or done any graphicky or music stuff on it yet.

I would still reccomend the 3820tg in spite of my slight problems as the screen only flickers slightly on very low brightness settings, and the wireless problems could be any number of things ike a simple driver issue or somethin (dazzday isn't having any such problems on his).

If I was gonna spend €900 I'd get the Dell Latitude 13, its made with better metal than the V13 so the fan isnt suppose to be as loud, nice laptop though cheers.

Dazzyday - no games, just the net and micro office stuff

Thinkin bout an MSI x380, similar size to Mac air

TBH for your needs the ASUS UL30 deal available at carphone warehouse is hard to look past.

Although last years spec, at €399 its a steal. Excellent build quality, a realistic 7hour battery under use, light, cool and very quiet. Also has HDMI out for multimedia needs.
TBF the cpu is more than adequete for most tasks, especially multitasking and even 1080p playback or light encoding.

With the release of Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPUs next year, i'd be loath to make a 3yr+ laptop investment. Sandybridge promises to significantly improve battery life, massively improve quadcores, intergrate lightpeak/usb 3/sata 3 and maybe most signifiacntly eliminate low end dedicated GPUs through a much improved intergrated GPU. Finally it will be possibly to buy a low end laptop that will flawlessly playback HD and can moderatly game.

At €399 you could easily keep for a year or two and then upgrade without fear of losing out/ wasted investment etc!

Think I found what I'm lookin for -

    http://www.laptopsdirect.ie/Lenovo_ThinkPad_Edge_Laptop_in_Matte_Black_NUD5MUK/version.asp?PID=1755

Checked alot of reviews and its suppose to be very quite, thin and light.

    Oh no, I wouldn't personally. 13" C2D processor/2GB RAM for €700?? There's a much better standard out there for that price/slightly more.

The Dell M301z doesn't look like a bad laptop. Not many reviews around for it though which is a bit odd. Of the few that are out there most agree its a good laptop but battery life and processor aren't great compared to others in this price range.

Well what if I was to get it right from Lenovo Ireland -

    http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/ieweb/LenovoPortal/en_IE/catalog.workflow:category.details?current-catalog-id=FD6DB49790C7411D933567FC361231FB&current-category-id=A6C80BA5C0514603919B10F7F44E36F7&action=init

It looks good, seems thin and light but the fact that its a 13" light and small and is suppose to be very quiet is a huge thing for me. Most 13" have annoying constant fans etc.

    I've a nice Lenovo X60s for sale ( I'm using it atm)

Lovely size and weight I must say, but you may need more than a 60gig HDD though.
