I need some advice, DP and I are getting married next year and I have been to see a few venues so far but we really do not have much choice for nice wedding venues in Waterford. I went to see the Athenaeum yesterday and really liked it, lovely feel to the place the only issue is the size it is quite small and the dancing area is very small. Have any of you been to a wedding there? What was it like? Any suggestions for any other nice wedding hotels in the area that I may have missed out on?
    Thanks a million

    Hi
We too looked at the Athenaum Hotel when booking our wedding, I was put off by the small size and how seperated the rooms were. It was a lovely place though and the gardens were beautiful. There was a wedding on at the time we visited and the guests seemed very scattered around plus there was very little room in the restaurant, I could imagine peoples elbows banging against eachother. I decided to go against it in the end because I think it is more suit to a smaller wedding, plus the owner wasnt willing to move much on prices or bargain with us.

We ended up booking the Woodlands Hotel on the Dunmore Rd, they are doing some amazing deals at the moment and the manager cant do enough for us. A really nice guy.
We also looked at the Tower , which was nice and they were giving away a honeymoon with their offer, but I just thought the room was way too big for our guests and the deal not as good as the Woodlands.
We looked at Dooleys Hotel too and wasnt too impressed with the set up and lay out, although the staff were lovely. The Granville was a no no for us, I found it really dated and old, plus the menu was something out of the 1960s.
I was recommended to see the Manor Hotel also but once I saw the Woodlands I was totally sold.

I hope this helped a little.

Played as a DJ there about 4 years ago. The thing with a house hotel is that everything is divided up which can be good or bad depending on your point of view.

The number I had there was about 100. So the older guests stayed in the conservatory area, and the younger people were in the bar and room for the music. At times it was a struggle but any DJ worth his salt should be able to entertain you and your party. If numbers go over 100, look elsewhere.
