i booked an apointment with an independent optician in south dublin for a few weeks from now. I need to go to an independent optician as specsavers dont stock the contacts i want. I was told it will cost 60 quid. I know they are independent and will be more expensive than specsavers, but specsavers charged me 25 quid for my contact lens test. 60 quid seems quite harsh.

Am i correct thinking its a bit costly?

Sounds a bit pricey alright. I spend 30 recently in specasvers, the intial consultation, 3 practises, 5 day trials & the follow up where in that. I priced a local indepedent after the first practise in specsavers as i didnt know at the time i had as many practises as i wanted included, & they said 25. So 30 in specsavers & 25 in the other place. Maybe find out what exactly they are including the price they gave you?

Yeah €60 sounds a bit harsh. Our practice charges €40 for a teach which includes full aftercare and trial lenses. Next is a contact lens check which is the yearly check we charge €25. In your case you are trying a new lens so the optician can't just do a check and away you go. A full teach is required to see how the lenses fit before they can sell them to you. If you walked into a practice with a valid cl prescription from somewhere else and you wanted to purchase the same type of lenses then a check is all that's required.

Where is your practice endplate? 40 euros for all that sounds much better than 60!
