They can be repaired also if Audi Ireland won't cover it.

What year and mileage is on the car, does it have a full audi service history?

2003 84,000 miles, has full service history.

    Is it expensive Neil?

Audi in uk agreed to cover them ALL as long as full audi history (only after a long fight). Not sure about Ireland.

There are uk companies who are repairing them for reasonable cost I believe as the cost of a new one would be basically too much.

I had a TT and while I didnt have the problem as such, at one stage the needles started to flicker a small bit. A new car battery cured this 100% though.

When times were good I was thinking of buying a TT as a weekend car and have the diesel for daily commutes. Anyhow came across a cheap enough TT on done deal turned out it had a fault dash pod. Owner was insisting that it would be covered by Audi Ireland. Its isnt I contacted Audi directly to find out what the story was as I knew it was replaced free of charge in the UK .Here is the reply from them:

    Dear <EDIT>

Thank you for your mail that we received Friday the <EDIT>

Given Audi's high standards in terms of product and service it is
regrettable of circumstances in which a customer has cause for concern.

We would like to advise that the replacement of the dash clocks in the
UK is specific to the UK market. Unfortunately the warranty on your
vehicle would have expired in 2001 and there is no coverage from the
    Manufacturer for this part.

We are sorry we cannot offer a more favorable reply.

    <EDIT>
    After Sales Department

You could bring the car to the North and get a dealer there to fix the problem as its a recall issue in the UK and northern Ireland. Or you could send the dash pod to this crowd as they repair them (they have a very good reputation as well in auto electronic repair):

To be fair, that is the stardard f*ck off response from Audi. I wouldnt have just left it at that.

    Cheers nogoodnamesleft,

Joke isn't it did you buy the Audi?

Nope didnt buy it in the end. Did a bit of research on the car after that turned out it was a dealer pretending to be a private seller. It was on adverts.ie for 7 (i think at the time) and saw it on carzone for 10k  .It had other common problems (the hazard switch relay was f**king up the indicators) few other bits and bobs it was the 180bhp version and it had a blue leather interior. My taste would be 225bhp and black leather :) ....then the economy changed :(

As I didnt have the car (I was chancing my arm to see what the story was) but if I had bought the car and given that response, putting it lightly I would be writing a strongly worded email back to audi ireland. Specific to the UK market my hole. The problem isnt specific to the UK so why should the recall?

    ...jeez, lighten up.

I bought a TT in the UK years ago, and had f.o.c. work done by Western Motors in Galway, with zero hassle, way outside warranty. Once it's a known fault/recall, Audi AG pay the dealer, so the workshop is only happy to have the billable hours.

Agnews agreed to replace one on my friends 2001 TT. It was originally a UK car, with Audi history from new.

@nogoodnames - the hazard switch relay is a 5min/€20 job. I had to swop that out also on my friends one.

Ya i know its a simple job, however everything about the car didnt sit right with me so I walked away. I had a number of doubts about the haldex filter and oil on the rear diff that the seller declined to comment on when I inquired about it.

A mate of mine bought a lotus elise s2 after that and I said if I had the money again in future Id get myself one of those :) no offence enfant terrible.

tbh, I have no idea. I bought it privately, in the UK. It may have had, but either way, Western Motors never asked me for it........and, funnily, once 'in the system', I got notified of a suspension recall, and they wrote out and did that as well, a few month's later. Painless, really.
