Would anybody happen to know the best american fridge freezer to buy? Need a bigger fridge for new addition to household. Have looked around and the difference between a samsung and a bosch is about a grand!....if anyone can let me know if its worth investing in the Bosch over samsung I would greatly appreciate any feedback.

I was going to buy and American fridge freezer until I realised that the drinks/ice dispenser takes from the freezer capacity. Plus I heard that there can be problems with them.
I bought the big Fisher & Paykel fridge freezer instead and it's amazing, there's so much room in it. I have it 3 years now and have never had a bit of trouble with it http://www.did.ie/Product/FISHER%20andamp%20PAYKEL%20FRIDGE%20FREEZER/16521/436

I have a Samsung American Fridge freezer it was about €700. Its works great no problems but as another poster said the ice and water does take up alot of room in the freezer part. And the EBS has shot up since we got it im told they are heavy to run , Watch out for the filter they are about €70 and only last about 8 months.Would i get another one ? Maybe not i dont think there is that much room in them.

We had a Bosch American-style fridge-freezer and to be quite honest it wasn't all that great.

European appliances seem more practically built. We replaced it with a pair of side-by-side Miele larder fridges which we got on a special offer and to be quite honest they're vastly superior and they seem to have much more space.

The big problem with the American fridge was that while it was huge on the outside, it didn't have all that much space on the inside. The walls seem to be insanely thick and i have been told it's because they use lower-tech insulation materials. They are also full of air ducts and the motor unit is basically like a large air conditioner sitting in the bottom.

They cool the food by blowing in cold air. European fridges tend to have a cool wall and a circulating fan in the fridge itself. Or, they use the totally frost-free system, but it seems a lot more modern than the way it's done in the US fridges. It's a more elegant design in my opinion.

Most of the US-style fridge was taken up by ice-makers and water chillers. Then, I also found the freezer was too narrow. It made storing things like pizzas quite difficult.

In the end it started tripping the RCD due to some kind of defrost circuit problem. When we opened it up we found big lumps of putty that had been incorrectly installed.

It was made by Bosch in the USA, and the construction standards were similar to any US appliance I've dealt with i.e. "easy-rust" metal and really poorly / impractically designed bulky components.

It looked more like the kind of construction you'd expect in a conservatory not a fridge!

Anyway, don't be over-wowed by them. There are some really nice European fridges out there and I think if you look at getting perhaps a full height larder fridge and a decent sized freezer from a reputable European brand, you'll probably save yourself a few quid and get far better and more practical storage space.

European fridges also tend to fit much more easily into a typical kitchen and you can split up the fridge and freezer and put them in different parts of the kitchen too or opt for a large fridge and an under-counter freezer etc etc..

got a rangemaster sxs 3 years ago,now the freezer is not working ,ice cube maker not working, build of ice on back of freezer..i rang shop where i bought it and they gave a number of a fella who i rang.turns out hes a plumber and he said straight out he knew nothing about these types of fridges. the only rangemaster service agents in ireland are based in the north as far i can see. hindsight is a great thing, but i wouldnt touch these rangemasters again, come to think of it i wouldnt be dealing with electrical store where i bought it [and the rest of household stuff] again.
