    How did everyone find it?
I found it a bit overwhelming, like since i've today off i've been trying to understand and study the stuff we've done so far but no luck, i'm lost. Anyone else feel like this? Some of my friends are feeling the same especially when it comes to biochem, i'm really hoping things begin to fall into place....

    day 1: hmmm....
day 2: i want to cry
Day 3: morning: oh it's not so bad, afternoon: kill me now
    Day 4: Better
Day 5: Sunshine lollipops and fluffy things.

But yes I've spoken to a few people who feel like this, it'll take a while to get in on things. According to a third year i spoke to, physiology will end up as one of the favourite subjects which atm is just a pain.

I'd give it a month before i'd decide if i was able to cope or not! first week definitely felt overwhelming though.

Today was fine, mainly because I had nothing.

No one likes Biochem (NOONE likes Mok's proteins lectures). Few people like physiology and even less can remember all the anatomy. I'm in 4th year btw.

But! You have a whole year. Don't stress... It'll click sometime around December.. and then again in May- shockingly, when people tend to study! There are no hard concepts, just a fu.ck tonne of facts to remember. Like the LC...

Getting into medicine is the hardest bit. We've been told there are really only two big hurdles in the 5 years- first and third year... After 3rd year they want you to qualify and get through.

Instant Notes for biochem is a lifesaver.

I may not like biochem, but Mok is a cheery fellow!

I think end of day 1 I was having a bit of an anxiety attack about all the stuff I'd just been thrown, and had no idea about, but Brods is right, it's not hard, there's just an Everest-like quantity of it.

Dissection rocks my world though. Seriously.

This a random question I'm throwing in here - I know we have to learn all the amino acids and their structures, but someone said something about learning their pKas? I don't have pKas for all of them.

I remember him saying that. I think it's just the ones that are layed out on that one sheet. He said you don't have to know them exactly too, which is sweet.

I found biochem horrible! What are we actually meant to do with those structures he drew out? memorise them or what?

Physiology... It's not hard, but there's just a ****e loada stuff to learn. Like there's nothing difficult about it but during the lectures he barely lands on a slide before he's onto the next one!

Anatomy. Well I like it, the practical part. But the theory... I'm SO confused with the terms and the amount of stuff we've to learn. But Paul Tierney is a ledge emailing everything before the lectures. :)

I'm really hoping that after a month or so it'll just fall into place and becoe easier to manage the workload. Hopefully this week won't be as overwhelming.

    .

How many years do we have of each? I know anatomy is two. But please don't say biochem is three or something, please!!

Biochem's only up 'til Christmas of 2nd year!

Honestly, the biochem exams are quite doable! Do buy Instant notes though, and perhaps Lippincott's Biochemistry (or try and find them in the library) - life savers!

If ye feel overwhelmed or have questions about anything in particular, why not email your peer mentors or something? Having older meds with reams of advice is what it's alllllllll about.

So we just learn the important stuff right? Looking through the anatomy notes now and there's just bullet point after bullet point...

Whats the instant notes thing? Are the exams really that doable? I took chemistry up in a year last year and got a B3 but i'm still not feeling confident about biochem....

anyone found out how to choose the Student Selected Module? I've been trying to figure it out on WebCT for a while, no luck.

Yeah I was quite annoyed about the lack of communication about this beforehand. The website almost explicitly stated it would open at midnight, which obviously wasn't the case. Also the people that signed up before apparently didn't get kicked off, which was why History of Medicine was full almost immediately.

But I got what I wanted in the end, so I'm not complaining.
