Ok sorry if this is a bit premature (this Ryder Cup is barely started yet!) but I'm bored waiting for this golf to restart :o

Just saw that Monty may be asked again, other than that I'd say Olazabal is the next obvious choice since he was in line to captain the current cup team. Or how about goin back to a previous successful captain like Langer?

    Ollie would get my vote.

    I'm backing Ollie as well.

Was it not already decided that Olazabal would be captain in 2012, no? Or maybe it's just generally accepted that it will be him. He's the man for the job anyway!

depends on what happens here id say. if europe win & montys deemed to have done a good job he'll be in for 2012 id say - with clarke, mcginley & bjorn as vices he's have first refusal imho.

I doubt a person would get the chance to captain europe twice anymore as there is just so many people who could do it aswell. Likes of McGinely, Clarke, Ollie and Bjorn all in the near future.

Ollie in 2012 and then back to Monty in Scotland for 2014 if he's successful this weekend.

Agreed, I think Miguels speedy Spanglish would probably count against him getting the captains job :D Pretty sure he was vice captain before a few times too. Great personality to have on your side.

Was in the papers during the week that McGinley was interested in the 2012 job...

Doubt he'll get it again but you'd never know...

Langer has to be fitted into the equation there somewhere as well.

    Clarke or mcginley

I think McGinley is a good bet for 2014 in Scotland, first ever Irish captain will be a huge honour for him

I think McGinley will be the best captain Europe never had. He has all the attributes to be a great captain but doesn't have the playing record to get it over some others. It'll probably come down to him, Bjorn and Clarke for the 2014 job, with Clarke most likely getting it.

    Olly for 2012, definitely

    Hasn't Langer already been captain?

Olazabal for 2012 definitely. 2014 will surely be either Clarke or McGinley. There was a Welsh captain in Ireland, a Scottish captain in Wales and there will be an Irish captain in Scotland.

I think McGinley would make the best captain of any of the Irish players. I can't see Monty doing it again as I think the days of one person doing it more than once are over. There are simply too many good candidates and the opportunity only comes once every two years.

McGinley said in an interview yesterday evening that he's backing Olly for the job next time round and Olly said he's interested, health permitting, so it's a pretty shut case in those circumstances.

Will the nasty business of monty's strange private life come out soon so we think?

Don't think clarke has the brains for it to be honest. Doesn't strike me as the smartest bloke in the world. Although, woosie....

Olazabal says today he'll only take job if his health is better and he can compete fairly regularly on the tour....so may not be a done deal yet.

I actually think the next 4 captains may well be Montys vice captains (Sergio excluded) in the order of Olazabal, McGinley, Clarke, Bjorn. So it should be Westwood or Harrington in 2020 :)

Olly to get it next health permitting, then id say it will be Clarke, McGinley, Jimenez for the next few. Dont think Bjorn would get it, dont think he carries the same ryder cup stature as the other guys.
Then by the time these guys have done it you will have players like Sergio, Westwood and possibly Harrington that will be in the running.
