I have been offered a car in work.

    2007 focus estate Style

    1.6 tdci
    145000 KM's
    cruise airon etc.

turbo done all servicing and repairs no questions asked.

    4 good tyres.

    They have thrown out €7000

What do you think is this reasonable for what is essentially a private no warranty sale?

    Price sounds good to me.

A few things to be aware of though is that if the car has a DPF it may need a new one in the not too distant future. They tend to go at between 80k and 100k miles. Around €1k to replace though I think the 90bhp version doesn't have a DPF. DMF is another piece of unreliable diesel technology that can need replacing including the clutch at around the same mileage.

If you are getting it cheap then put some money aside for these possible repairs.

We sold an 06 one at the end of June.

    135,000km and no A/C.

Went to the trade for €5,500, so €7,000 for one with A/C and a year newer sounds like a good deal.

Had the EGR valve replaced at 120,000km, but apart from that and standard servicing & tyres, no other problems listed.

do not buy one of these 1.6 foci!! they are a peugeot engine . i have seen them to blow injector seals which go un noticed and build up carbon which in turn blocks up oil feed pipe to turbo which in turn ****s up your pocket

    Thanks for replies.

I will be driving minimal I use the van 90% of the time

I expect to do maybe 5000km per year maybe less in the car. So I am trying to get something reatively cheap with reasonable road tax untill the 08 cars start dropping to reasonable levels.

I have survived without a car for over a year but should really have a car for social purposes.

As I mentioned the turbo has been done.

As I mentioned the turbo has been done.

Any idea's why they needed to replace the turbo?

Turbo failures on those engines can be related to internal lubrication problems within the engine itself. My wife's car is propelled by one of those engines and I've shortened the oil change interval to 6000 miles. There's nothing wrong with her car BTW, and I intend to keep it that way!

What would it cost to change the turbo? Do these always give up at some point? What about the dpf - how much to replace and again, does this also always give up or like the flywheel, is it a random thing?
