Failed NCT (on emissons). What should I do with my car?

    Hi,

My 1997 VW Polo has failed its NCT, and Failed Re-TEST. The garage says there is an engine problem, because it failed on all three of the emissions. They said there is very little they can do.

The car works fine, but is just putting out too much CO2, and other emissions. It only has 75,000 miles on the clock, and isn't in a bad state. The garage say the work to fix out weights fixing it. Labour is too expensive, and as I brought the car for €900 over a year ago.. It doesn't seem worth putting more money into into motor.

I want to know what are my options? Who wants to buy a car without NCT, and how much do you think I will get? I read its free to take it a 'recycling center', but would like to get a little bit for the spare parts.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

you need to have the engine very well warmed up before the test, motor factors sell a fuel adative you put into the fuel tank before the the test as well, give it on last go, you never know

    HI,

I have tried this, but it doesn't really solve the problem of oil / crap in the engine.

I have decided to sell the car. Its €400, but open to offers. It is fine, apart from emissions, if you were a mechanic it would be a easy turn around.

How is the car driven on a day by day basis? Do you drive it on short trips in the town only or do you take the car on long runs from time to time?

    .

That is because they don't know their arse from their elbow. There is very little they can do because they don't know their business. Try another garage.
