iPhone 4

Hi, I want to buy an iPhone 4 - preferably unlocked but as they are so expensive unlocked I'm thinking of going with one of the networks.

What I'd like to know if anyone can help is have Vodafone (in particular) or O2 or any of the others disabled any features of the standard iPhone, by installing their own proprietary base software and which they've been known to do before, or is the iPhone 4 an iPhone 4 no matter where you get it.

I don't want to pay a fortune for the phone and sign up to an 18 month contract to find out that it doesn't do everything it is designed to be able to do or would I be safer waiting for the price to come down a bit post Xmas and buying an unlocked one?

    Thanks.

Prices won't be coming down until the next gen is released next year, probably in August here. No, the phone companies can't install their own software, you just get add-ons like 3's website which only works on 3G rather than WiFi, on which you check your balance etc. Apparently 3 are blocking some websites on some people, but not others.

Go look up anything with titties. What's the point of having all those pixels if I can't masturbate dammit!

(There are other, non boob related sites blocked too, urbandictionary comes to mind)

As I understand is software wise it is as you say it "the iPhone 4 is an iPhone 4 no matter where you get it."

Does it actually come up as Blocked? Or does it just not load?

Refuses to load completely. Similar thing happens on vodafone UK but it says it's blocked! Only site I've had a problem with. Working fine on wifi right now. Keep meaning to call them about it...

    Cheers.
How would I go about this?

Lads don't mind with the comments regarding the problem. Ye can laugh or call me a lier all ye want but I am having the problem with boards. I use the mobile site if that makes any difference.

@guil did it there and switched back to network. No luck with it. I'll ring them today when I get a chance. Not madly impressed with the speed of things either compared to meteor who I was with previously

Spoke to VF about this and they told me to reset the phone and it should work. Not in Ireland at the mo but will be tom night so I'll do it then and report back. Here's hoping:)

I don't think its the network blocking websites. Its the iphone's safari when used on 3G. (safari is pre-installed and apple cannot check the age of the consumer). Basically another way around that is downloading a different browser from Apps Store. eg. Opera , or any other free browser available there, you will get a message when installing to confirm if you are 17+ , then you can view any site over 3G. Safari is not effected when used via WiFi. Only 3G ;)

Did this at the weekend and now can use boards on the phone when using the mobile network, both on VF IRE and VF UK
